Modern Televsions - Help

My reliable 17 year old television died last night. I am going to bury it with full honours this weekend.

Although we had a good relationship I think I will have to start a relationship with a new television.

I have an osterich approach to technology. I found this page about the difference between LCD and plasma televisions - is this accurate.

Is there a reason I should get a plasma and not a LCD or vice versa?

All advice appreciated - greatly.
