Force close after first run

Hey.

I thought this problem would've been more common, but apparently it's not, hence the posting of this thread to make sure you're aware of it. I have an Xperia X10a running 2.1. I installed Winamp and was able to play with the settings, look at the features and play music. The second track I played, I tried to skip and Winamp crashed. I reopened it via the homescreen widget. It crashed as it automatically played the next shuffle song (which is now the only song it can play - it's always the same) - and now that's all it does, crash after opening.

Is there any debug info I can include to help you out?

Just got the update, alas still crashes when you launch it - even uninstalling and uninstalling it causes to crash on play.

I have noticed if you use ADW to create a shortcut to the stock player that crashes in exactly the same way

Attached is a stack trace from Dalvik if it's any use, looks to be album art related.

I have the exact same problem here. Can't seem to find a workaround. And indeed, stock Android app crashes too with the exact same error! Maybe it's not a Winamp bug, but a bug in the SonyEricsson 2.1 update?

MediaScape and Music Player do not crash.

I too encounter this. This is on an HTC Incredible running 2.2.
While I'm not sure of the exact cause, my exception is pretty much the same as yours.
The way you can get around this is by going into the phone's settings and removing the application data.
I first was able to create this issue by saving a song from YouTube as an MP3 via the TubeMate application from the Market. Once I attempted to play the song, I would get the continued force close, until I deleted the application (winamp) data (settings->applications->manage applications->winamp->clear data).
Once I deleted the songs I downloaded from the above mentioned app and cleared my data, all was well again. I assume it may be caused by something lacking or incorrect in the metadata of the file?

Hope that at least helps get the app working for you again.

I have the exact same issue. It definitely has to do with some mishandling of the mp3s album art that causes Winamp to FC. I don't know why it can handle some songs with album art while not for others. The way I add album art to my music is all the same, which is to have a single .jpg in the album folder. Incidentally, I'm also on an Xperia X10a 2.1.

Really hope Winamp sorts this out.

I have the same issues, also on the Xperia, X10i to be exact. I'd guessed it was a problem with album art, as all the songs from some albums work, but none of the songs from others. Also, it will start to play the song, then crash before the art is loaded. HALP.

it might be a missing or partial album art file

if you browse to your root of your winamp media folder on your phone (attached in USB mode) and delete the album art folder contents, see if that fixes it.

Which is a nice workaround, but I like my album art! D: Ideally, I'd like to see an update that straight up fixes the problem.

Also confirmed fixed! WinAmp Team, you have no idea how many cool points you just scored with me. Thank you, THANK YOU, for actually listening to your users, and resolving problems they're having, even when it's just a problem with a single type of phone. It's this kind of care that's going to keep me using WinAmp software for a long, long time.

These force closed issues happen quite frequently on my Samsung Galaxy S Captivate. I can't help to think that there are a lot of unfinished kinks left in the programming of the phone. There is only so much we can do to prevent the programs on our phones from crashing.
