Unable to play AIFF files :(
I have Winamp v103 on my Galaxy S phone (Epic 4G), and am unable to play files that are of the AIFF format. I'm curious why on my computer (Mac Pro), in both Windows and Mac OS X, I can play either .WAV or .AIFF files, but only .WAV files are playable on my phone (Winamp can't even see AIFF files). I know AIFF is stored in Big Endian format and WAV files are stored in Little Endian format (basically byte swapped), but any modern OS and device should be able to play both. iPods can, so why can't Winamp?
I have to say, it's going to suck hardcare to transcode the huge number of AIFF rips (CD Paranoia rips) that I have into WAV format. Sure it's fast for each song, but I have tons of them. Sure would be nice to be able to play my music without having to jump through so many hoops. I know the default player can't play Big Endian files, but seriously, this is a file standard. Winamp should be able to, especially considering AIFF is a fairly flat and basic standard at that. |
