Various Artists on mix or DJ Albums
Hi, I've been a dedicated Winamp user since version 2.3 and I'm loving the new Winamp for Android but the one thing that made me choose Winamp as my desktop music player and library organiser was its ability to understand Disc and Track order as well as the vitally critical Album Artist tag when set to "Various Artists".
Most of my music is DJ mixed CDs so unfortunately when I upload one of my mix CDs to my phone, Winamp for Android creates an Album entry in the library for every song on the CD because it seemingly doesn't use (or ignores) the Album Artist tag on the MP3. As an example, I have a 2 CD mix set like so. Album: Markus Schulz - Miami '05 Album Artist: Various Artists CD1: 01 - Hydroid - Blue Tubes 02 - Interstate - I Found You ... 12 - Max Graham Featuring Jessica Jacobs - I Know You're Gone CD2: 01 - Bakke & Ljungqvist - Fanatic 02 - Steve May - Sublimate ... 12 - Hammer & Bennett - Language In Winamp 5.6, the library deals with the album properly and shows all tracks under the proper album title with the Album Artist showing as Various Artists. In Winamp for Android, the library shows 24 separate tracks with the Album Name set as Markus Schulz - Miami '05 and then the artist from each track listed as the Artist under the 24 separate "Albums". I'd love to start using Winamp for Android properly but I can't play my albums without creating separate playlists and it's killing me! I'm hoping it's an easy fix or a simple ommission from the library code. Thanks! |

I've just started using the Android app because of the Wifi sync feature and came across the same problem. I wonder why no one has replied to this thread in 3 months. Is there a workaround or are there simply not that many people using this feature yet?
FYI: Moving the files on the SD card into a single folder will solve the problem: the Android app will then only show one album for all tracks. |

... hence there are 2 solutions to this bug:
1) the Android app should not ignore the Album Artist tag when building its library 2) the Windows app should not use the Artist tag, but the Album Artist tag for naming the folders on the SD card. Is there a developer on this board who can confirm, that these are in fact two distinct bugs? Fixing at least one of them should be enough to solve the problem. |

i'm pretty sure the devs know of this issue b/c i've bitched about it a lot. the AA tag should not be ignored, and it certainly seems that atm it is.
imo, it should be used to create both the folders on the droid storage, and for display when browsing albums. its shocking to me that their app can be so far along and yet this has somehow slipped by. start at my post 7: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=328446 PENN STATE Radio or http://www.LION-Radio.org/ -- BUG #1 = Winamp skips short tracks Wish #1 = Multiple Column Sorting Wish #2 = Add TCMP/Compilation editing |

Well it works for me. I just configured the windows app to use album artist rather than artist
See this thread http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=328403 This is using a USB connection, I have problems syncing with wireless so I haven't tried that out. I have also synced with MusicBee, that works as well. |
