No SOund Via the Internet

Help!!

I have installed SHOUTcast with Winamp but cannot get sound via the players on the Internet. I have tried every version of DNAS and DSP but the results are the same.

Currently I am using DNAS 1.9.8 which is the version I used some moons ago and which worked pretty well. I am currently using DSP v 2.11 having worked my way up from the previous versions. I have the DSP set to legacy mode because I am using DNAS 1.9.8

My configuration file seems to be working just fine and I can touch the YP server with no real problems worth screaming about. (Script posted below).

The DSP is streaming nicely with no dropouts or any failures whatsoever. When the server declares that it has made the touch, I can find the station and sometimes it shows the song playing or recently played depending on the DNAS version. Sometimes it does not butI suspect this is latency across the Internet.. I might be wrong here.

I have my router ports forwarded, these being 8000 and 8001. I am playing MP3 files on an XP machine with 4GB RAM.

I can listen to the station across the local network using the IP address:8000, no problem but just cannot get sound via the players on the Internet

There used to be a method by which you could log into the station online as administrator but I cannot remember how that is done anymore.

The station is O2i Radio. Would be happy for some thoughts on what I am missing. Not sure if its something in WINAMP or Shoutcast or on my machine that's not setup correctly.

I just reinstalled XP and every other thing.. same problem! Helllpppppppppppp!!!!!

"O2i Radio" is showing up on the yp with an empty playlist or sometimes when I click on it shows a page not found error. Therefore I can't test your DNAS. You will need to provide the actual public IP your DNAS is running behind from. If you don't know it open this url ---> http://www.whatismyip.com <--- from the same computer the DNAS is running on and post it here.

For some reason something has inexplicably corrected itself and the YP entry is now showing a playable link and playlist. I am now able to listen fine with the IP:Port in Winamp and the player from the SHOUTcast directory listing.

You mentioned "the players on the Internet." Which did you try?

Did you try from a computer that's on the same internet connection as the DNAS is using? If so then it probably means that the current router you're using either doesn't allow or doesn't know how to perform local network loopback connections. A lot of routers are that way.

If you did not try it from a computer that's on the same internet connection as the DNAS then try again, the issue may have cleared up now.

OOOK.. I have a few systems on the network so I will try them and see if I can get the same good luck that you got. As you mentioned, sometimes there is a list and link, another time its blank but I cannot determine why this happens.

The router I have is OK because I have used this router with DNAS 1.9 before and it worked fine, unless there is now some kinda firmware issue.

When I mentioned players... I actually meant the player from shoutcast.. sorry!

I will make some connections in a minute and report back to you..

thanks!!!

If your router is configured for automatic firmware updates then the scenario is possible. I've seen automatic firmware update cause local network loopback functionality to be disabled. For some ass-hat reason it's considered by alot of knuckle-dragging Neanderthals a security risk (which has never been adequately explained to my satisfaction.)

I tried it on the systems on my network here, with no joy whatsoever. I will ask a few friends around the world to test it and see if they get the same success you got.

I will ask them to use the shoutcast player from the YP site. Will report back to you with the results..

be of good cheer
thanks

Query....

One person just told me that the station is being reported twice in the directory. One with a link and play list and the other without. I have never seen that before but can that be a problem, in that the player does not know which is the right station? It does not work from either entry however.

Is that even possible?

So far I have not seen a duplication of your station in the YP. Just one that either does or doesn't work. I'm currently pulling it up by doing an "O2i Radio" search.

[edit]
Ah crap. It's not just yours. It's mine as well. The YP is all jacked up. Will just have to wait it out 'till it gets cleared up.

Reporting in...

The service continues to be intermittent. While its much better than yesterday its still not worth writing home to mom about as yet.

Is patience my only solution?

Cheers

I dunno since nobody on the sc team has either confirmed or denied the existence of any known new issues with the YP. At this time the things I can suggest to try is to change your Yport in your configuration to 666 and making sure your internet connection is solid and stable. The log you posted suggests your internet connection isn't 100%.

Also, for future reference, please post your logs as an attachment to your post if you can. Please refrain where possible from posting large logs like that directly into your post text. I know the forums has issues at times with attachments so I'm not beating up on you about it.

Thanks!

Just a note to let you know that the YP business seems to have been corrected and the broadcast is going nicely, without the jitters and everything else.

Thanks for your support as usual
