Install will not load database for Online Services

When installing the player, at the Online Services step, I get "Error loading data" and consequently cannot play any internet stations when the install finishes. I have installed DirectX and still get this error. Everything else works with the player (importing & playing files from hard drive) except for the net stations. Any ideas? My OS is XP Pro and WMP's streams play fine.

I've been through the Greatest Hits, the stickies, and spent a great deal of time looking for an answer to the problem I posted above in many pages of previous posts. Surely someone here can give me an idea of how to correct?

If this helps anyone diagnose the problem, I was able to get a Shoutcast station to play via going to the Shoutcast website and clicking the play via Winamp option. It was not immediate - the player scrolled through several different http links before connecting to one.
