intern audio streaming over wifi with shoutcast
Hello,
For some time i have been working on a project, The goal of the project is to stream audio over a intern wifi network to smartphones, I have already researched different programs to do this like asterisk and skype, last week someone told me i had to do some research in shoutcast if that could help. My question is, is it possible to stream audio on an intern network over wifi? And how? Are there any problems that can occur when i will be streaming? What is there to tell about the latency, will it be high? (5-30 secs) or low (0.1-2) secs Can the latency be changed? |

The details I don't remember, you'll probably just have to experiment/test and see. |

i assume 'intern' is a shortening of 'internal' ?
SHOUTcast will work ok on any network as long as the clients are able to correctly connect to the server (as you need a source and a server for clients to connect to), be it via a wired or wireless connection (as i often use for testing). if it is an internal network i.e. not being listed on shoutcast.com, and you do use it then you'd need to set the source or the server to be private (is covered in the documentation). with the latency, as thinktink mentions it will primarily depend on the bitrate of the stream, you can reduce it by altering the server's buffers but that then involves playing around with things to find something which will work correctly on your network setup (the defaults should generally work ok without issue - something needed with the tempremental nature of wireless networks). -daz |
