Winamp Pro very high CPU usage

Bought winamp pro a couple of days ago on my Samsung Galaxy S. I am getting 22- 40% cpu utilisation just playing an mp3 (has consistently occurred with different mp3s, different times). The battery literally ticks down in front of my eyes at about 1%/1-2 min, with it running. Even stranger to me is that the battery is draining at about twice the normal rate even when nothing is playing.

I've tried out lots of apps and nothing has sucked down the juice like this. Does anyone know of this problem? Any suggestions or workarounds? Are there earlier builds I can access to see if it's a recent problem? Thanks.

Just thought I'd add that the stock Samsung player and the playerpro trial both use between 0 and 0.34% when playing mp3s. Something seems seriously up with the way winamp is running on my system!

No experience of this out there? How odd! Looks like I'll try Winamp again when I've reformatted my phone (sadly, my Galaxy S requires this every few months or gets very slow).
