Jump to file usage

Hello.
I still can not understand the usage of the Jump to file feature in (beloved) winamp

I hope someone has the time and post a simple example of its usage.

In iTunes, there is a feature by which you can locate a certain file in your library (say, from within a playlist) by right clicking on the entry and choosing "show in playlist -> library." You can even find the same entry on other playlists by doing the same procedure, only selecting the relevant playlist instead of "library."
Maybe the jump to file feature in winamp does the same thing?
Or is there another procedure to locate a certain track that is being played? Say, I'm listening to a track and the information on the player is incomplete. So, I want to see if the information in the Music library tells me more about that track. How do I "jump" from the track on the player window to the corresponding entry in the Music Library window?

Thank you!

the jump to file (jtf) feature only works on what is currently in the main playlist editor window and will not search through anything in the library. to search in the library you'd need to select the 'local media' or sub-nodes of that in the 'media library' window / pane.

Winamp isn't like iTunes where it's all in the same window and what is in the library is basically it's playback queue - Winamp due to it's age and design means that the library doesn't know what is going on in the playlist editor and so you cannot look for a file in the playlist editor / jtf window and then select / highlight that instance in the library.

Looks like both systems have their pros and cons (like everything else in life! )

I like it that in Winamp, the library can be easily updated, even if the files came from another source. In fact, I love this! (as opposed to the fact that in itunes, the library has no way of telling if there are new tracks in the corresponding folder, unless you add them specifically through itunes.)
On the other hand, its sad that I cannot "jump" to the library entry from the player.

Any way, thanks for the reply, DrO (I think you are the JTF plug-in developer, aren't you?)

I wish you could tell me what's the use of JTF... I still don't catch it.

the Winamp library is just another plug-in and isn't at the fundamental design of the player (unlike iTunes and WMP and others have changed themselves to be like). unless the library plug-in gained the means to be able to 'know' what is currently playing, what people keep asking for is not going to be easily possible.

the jtf window is for searching only in the main playlist editor as that is Winamp's playback queue and so the jtf window is really there for controlling / finding things to play which are directly available to be played - as you cannot play anything in Winamp unless it's in the main playlist editor window.

dunno if that make things clearer or not. from the sounds of it, the jtf window isn't something you'd be using anyway if you're more library-centric in usage.
