Winamp for Android almost had me fired - BATTERY KILLER
Hi,
Sorry for the over dramatised title, but last night I went to sleep with a 100% charged Motorola Milestone, and woke up to the sun instead of my alarm. Just over 6hrs of idle time and Winamp killed the phone. Also my Motorola Backflip is experiencing the same issue, 15% drain on battery in less than 1hr of idle time. I have WIFI sync turned on on both. How do I correct this battery issue? I really like the app, infact I deleted Mixzing, which I've been using for years now because of this new integration with the desktop app. Please tell me I don't ave to go back to what appears to be the only half decent msic app available for Android. Long story short, thanks or the free app, BUT WHEN ARE YOU/WHAT CAN I DO/ to fix this HUGE BATTERY DRAIN ISSUE!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for your time! -randmcnally Last edited by randmcnally; 11th January 2012 at 14:03. Reason: Typos |

I am not using the widget. I am however using the WIFI sync. I can't be he only person experiencing this. Both phones are rooted and have cyanogemod 7 installed, 2.3.4.
Not sure if that could be the cause? |

Well I used to have serious battery drain issues with WiFi sync on before but it was recently resolved in one of the newer updates. I assume you do have the latest version from the market? If it is indeed the WiFi sync then why not just shut it off?

I have disabled WIFI sync. The app is constantly running, constantly using battery power, and I am unable to turn it off.
I installed this on another member of my households Moto Milestone. The phone ran fine with Cynanogenmod 7 (just as my backflip has) but since installing Winamp (and even after deleting winamp) the battery life is completely f*cked. I don't understand why Winamp needs to be constantly running, and I doubly don't understand why the phones were solid in regard to batter life until I installed Winamp on them both. edit: I am not using a widget. |

So...
With Winamp installed, 11%/hr battery drain when idle - even with Wifi off. With Winamp uninstalled 3%/hr drain when idle. Clearly there is a battery drain from the app. Maybe it is the combo between Winamp and Cyanogemod? Either way Mixzing doesn't cause any drain other than the 3% when idle. So it looks like I dont get to use this app? Is that your final answer Nullsoft/AOL? These results are consistent on both Motorola Milestone and Backflip, both with Cyanogemod 7.1. |

u can try a free app called advanced task killer and see if it shuts down winamp, but be aware sometimes things can auto-respawn.
