Winamp / Ipod help sought

Hello
This is a repeating problem and I'm looking for a solution. Grateful for any help!

Both my Ipod and my girlfriend's stopped 'working' yesterday. They both stated they had no music on them, however, both Ipods' settings read that they were missing 55 gigs of storage space (as if the music was still on there). I plugged them into Winamp and Winamp recognizes all the music. It even plays it. Nothing else will. This has happened a couple other times. I would love to be able to find out a solution or at least if there is one!

Thanks!
j

If this has happened a couple other times as you stated, how were you able to resolve it then? I'm assuming you tried what you did previously, and it did not work this time?

I honestly have no idea why iPods are so popular. Anything that locks my music up not letting me retrieve it really is a bad idea.

I would recommending getting ml_ipod, it allows you to recover orphaned files (not in the iTunesDB but still present on the iPod), and rebuild a corrupt iTunesDB. Often if you don't allow enough room for the DB when filling it can't be written completely and gets corrupt. So, in summary: Get ml_ipod to fix your corrupt database and clean out your orphans, then liberally decrease the amount of space filled so it doesn't happen again.

Request: A little SmartView Query Language love.

Jamil, I did not resolve it before. I simply restored my ipod through Itunes and then reloaded my music using winamp.

Osmosis, thanks for the tip I will check into that program immediately. If storage space is an issue I have a 160gb ipod and only about 55 gb of music stored.

Do you always use the "safely remove hardware" icons on the PC when disconnecting your iPod? Have you tried a standard CHKDSK?
