Album Art troubles

Heya, really digging Winamp 5. Something with the album art is bugging me. I found covers for about 5 albums for songs I was listening to. The problem is when I go to another song that doesn't have album art downloaded, it just chooses random album art instead of having the default "No album art" image (the one that's there for all songs when first launching winamp 5, think it's a llama logo). If winamp doesn't find album art for a specific song, instead of having a random album cover that i've downloaded previously, I'd like it to not show any album art at all. Get what I'm saying? Hope so

I searched and couldn't find anything on this subject.

Winamp does not download album art unless you specifically tell it too. If you have random album art showing up in folders, Winamp isn't the culprit. And make you you are displaying hidden files when looking:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...ddenfiles.mspx

(And WMP does like to do things, regardless if you "use" it or not)

Heya, I still have this problem. Let me see if I can explain a bit better:

The problem isn't random album art showing up in folders, it's random album art showing up in winamp. For instance, right now I'm listening to The Killers and the album art it shows for it is from a Pink Floyd album. Since I'm not going to be able to find album art for every song I have, I just want it to show nothing there if no album art is found for the specific song, and not be a random album cover.

Edit: Did some more investigating and found that it has something to do with an album art file named cover.jpg. It seems if a jpeg is named cover.jpg it replaces the default album art image for all songs that don't have an album art cover downloaded and selected already.

This is confusing.

Yes... there is a "hierarchy" of album art criteria that is used to display the art, depending on whether there is embedded art, an .nfo file, or on which album names are present within the containing folder.

Evidently cover.jpg comes first in the hierarchy in your case. You probably have folder.jpg in there too, which will not be shown if cover.jpg is present.

Here's the breakdown (in order, as to which is to be used first)...
  1. embedded art in tags
  2. %album%.jpg/png/gif
  3. .nfo file with matching *.jpg/.png/.gif name
  4. cover.jpg
  5. folder.jpg

Confusing...

So what can I do in order for cover.jpg to not be the default album art for everything? I can't get album art for all of the MP3s I have. Maybe I'll just replace cover.jpg with the default winamp llama logo somehow...but then it'll probably be overwritten next time I get album art that is cover.jpg?

What's my solution?

Nunz posted the order in which covers are displayed. If you have a cover.jpg that you don't want to be shown in Winamp, either delete it or use an image which will be shown before it.

hi,
I read the above posts and am having the same trouble the OP was having.
Not sure I understand or can tell what resolution for this problem he came too.
I have this album art cover for a Ben Harper album which seems to have become the "default" album cover for any ones that don't have album covers. I'm trying to get a better understanding of this and read about the hierarchy you mention but I'm still having some difficulty understanding what I need to do to get just the blank llama logo there.
thanks for being patient with us/me, I'm just having trouble understanding how I can resolve this? I am sure it has to be somewhat simpler than I am making it out to be.

All the issues about covers have been covered in this thread. Sawg posted a link detailing WMP's hidden cover images and a link to tell you how to show them. Then Nunz posted the order in which covers are shown and then a couple of links detailing Winamp's Album Art features.

If you are getting a cover shown for all files then I would suggest you a) sort your albums out of one folder, b) remove a cover or folder image in the containing folder, or c) check for hidden WMP covers.

I'm sure this will piss off Darnley (sorry) - But I've been wondering; Is there any better way around this issue yet?

Would be nice of there was just a plugin or something that would make it so it doesn't display any album art for tracks that don't have album art associated with them yet.

Winamp still has no configuration for how it detects covers, nor is there any way to associate a cover with a file (other than embedding it). So I'm afraid that your problem still exists. Sorry.

If you download the album art with winamp, it downloads as %artsit% - %album%.jpg

So make sure your album tags are filled out properly. it will also read cover.jpg and folder.jpg from whatever folder ths track is. So, if you have one of those, it will apply to the whole folder.

Since when? It saves it as %album%.jpg.

Azunai, see the naming conventions for covers further up the thread. If you have more than one album in a folder then you will need to use an image named other than cover, folder or *.nfo file.

Is "Genesis - Carpet Crawlers" the album of that mp3? No? Then Winamp won't read "Genesis - Carpet Crawlers.jpg" as a cover. Yes? All is well. And, yes, in the same folder, that is the only place that Winamp looks for covers.

It's not for an album but for a single file. Each file with a different picture.

Someone else in the forum recommended me to embed a pic via a little program. I will try that and let you know if it worked. Thanks for the help.

So let me get this straight,

Winamp will recognize:

A) %album%.jpg
B) cover.jpg
C) folder.jpg

But Winamp will look for A or B before C ?

And if so, shouldn't Winamp be able to look at a song's embedded info for the album name, check for a JPG with the same name in the folder containing that song, and use it for the cover art?

And assuming that, shouldn't it be able to display multiple covers for multiple songs all in one folder if a) the song is tagged properly, and b) the cover art exists and is named properly?

Please tell me if I'm missing something here...

PS - AND WHY CAN'T IT FIND ANY ALBUM ART ONLINE?

Does this answer your first question?

The file's metadata or what is stored in the library will provide the %album% tag.

Yes and Yes.

If files have embedded art, this will be used. %album%.jpg will be shown for all files which match %album%. If there is an x.nfo file, an image called x.jpg will be shown. cover.jpg and folder.jpg will be show if none of the previous conditions are met.
(jpg used to simplify)

As for why online lookup doesn't work, I have no idea. Perhaps the albums you are searching for are too obscure.

I tried several album art searches including "Michael Jackson" (to test something well known), and got nothing. But I think this is discussed in another thread - I just can't figure out where that thread went.

PS - I think this was asked in another thread, but what service does Winamp use to query for album art?

EDIT: Ok, so I erased a folder.jpg that was in one of the folders I was having issues with, and now I have been able to add the artwork for each song independently without problems. Apparently, that folder.jpg was overriding every album art I tried to add for each independent song previously.

Now, I just wish there was an automatic album art tool in Winamp so I could do all of them at once...

This seems to be an old thread, but I'll give it a try:

I embedded album art long ago with an earlier version of WinAmp and it displayed the album art just fine. I just installed the latest version (5.623) moments ago, and though it can see the album art in the file info, it can't seem to display it with "Album Art View" toggled on.

Is this a bug or is there some preference setting I'm missing?

Hi KADC,

What skin are you using? Maybe the window that displays the artwork needs to be enlarged.

Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1, WA Pro 5.7.0.3381 beta, cPro MPxi_remix skin, 5.1 speaker system
