Changing streampath details

Hi

I note that the streampath_1=/test.aac.

Is it wise to change "test" to a name of my choosing and is there anything else I need to alter to do so?

it is very wise to change it since unless you're stream is aac to begin with, it will cause a number of client players to fail. and really it'll probably be easier to just remove the line completely and leave the DNAS to provide a default streampath which will work ok.

it was in the examples to show what could be done but in too many cases it has ended up being left in for mp3 streams and then i get shouted at for things not working.

Hi

I've not changed it as yet as I am still setting things up and testing connections.

As a follow up to this can you tell me what the expected syntax should be to connect?

I currently have: http://xx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8010/stream

I have also tried http://xx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8010/stream/1

and

I have also tried http://xx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8010/stream/test.aac

If you can assist with this that would be great.

it depends on the stream number being accessed, the version of the DNAS and what you've configured.

the safest option is to use the 'listen' link if you're directly connecting e.g. <serveraddress>/listen.pls?sid=# where # is the stream number (and the pls can be changed to m3u or any of the other playlist formats the DNAS provides).

otherwise you can use <serveraddress>/stream/#/ where # is the stream number (though depending on the version of the v2 DNAS, it can be just <serveraddress>/ to access stream #1 and then <serveraddress>/stream/#/ for all other streams).

and with the case of streampaths it's just <serveraddress>/<streampath> to access it.

this is covered in the documentation details for the different config options.

however, this all assumes that you've got the DNAS correctly configured e.g. you've followed http://wiki.winamp.com/wiki/SHOUTcas...ash_Management to ensure the stream(s) will be accessible if you've set them to be public i.e. listed in the Directory.

if things keep failing to connect then you need to look at the DNAS logs and see what it is showing especially any errors relating to YP2.

Hi

Still having challenges with this. And I found out my token had expired in this forum, whatever that means.

1. I can access admin internally but not remotely

2. Config. is set to public

3. When I look to create an autohash I get the following: Problem was experienced retrieving the details for the dropdown options. You will need to change your browser's security settings to allow remote content to be downloadable in this domain. Please fix and refresh this page.

4. I'm working on the security issues but can't access the admin remotely, even though the IP is correct.

Any help appreciated to calm the frustrations!

Cheers.

there's two things, either you've not done the port forwarding needed which would lead to NAK errors and the inability to access the pages (i assume it's any of the DNAS's pages from what you've said) and would need to have a look at http://wiki.winamp.com/wiki/SHOUTcast_YP_Nak_Errors

if it's just admin pages i.e. /index.html?sid=# works then it could be you've enabled RIP support which could cause a blocking of the admin pages.

but it's more like the first than the second which is causing most of the issues now.

Hi Daz

really appreciating you being around.

:-)

Loaded Google Chrome and I now have the autohash required. I'll wait ten minutes and try the server again.

If it works I'll let you know. Still doesn't explain the lack of external connection though. Is that the first thing you refer to above?

Hi Daz

Still not there. I don't think its a port forwarding issue as I am using a VPS. I have IIS running for some reason; would this interfere with anything?

When I put the following URL into winamp I get an immediate 404 not found:

http://xx.xxx.xxx.xxx/listen.pls?sid=1

Anything else you would like me to do to assist troubleshooting?

One more thing. What should I set as the the protocol for the ports to be opened? In fact can you give me any guide to opening the correct ports in Windows 2008 r2?

if you're able to get an authhash then that points at the ports being ok (which is meant to be just 'portbase' and optionally 'portbase+1' if you want remote source connections using TCP.

if Winamp's not able to play the stream then you need to look at the summary page status and check the logs for any errors. there's little else i can say / suggest now without knowing what the DNAS is actually trying to do and is reporting in it's log output.
