Annoying error message I keep getting.

After finally getting winamp to play cd's, it now stops after every track and gives me an error message.

Winamp - CD reader - Error
ASPI error: 0x4 (SRB completed with error)
Sense Key : 0x5 (Illegal request) Sense code : 0x63 0x0 (End of user are encountered on this track).

I can click OK, and then manually skip to the next track, but it won't just play through the whole CD.

Where did you download the CDReader from?
The version @ winamp.com/plugins is old and buggy (v1.73)

The current version available @ the author's site is v1.91

However, there's a note on the author's homepage that says if you experience any problems with v1.91, you should use v1.83 instead.

I tried all the links. I downloaded aspichk.exe. It said that I had an bad installation of ASPI. It seems that I'm missing the aspienum.vxd driver. When I went to download the updated drivers, it says NOT to install them if I use windows media player 7, or easy cd creator 4.x, because the new layers might interfere with them. Well I use easy cd creator a lot. I tried to install them anyways, and it said that it wouldn't because I don't have a Adaptec host adapter, or a adaptec version of the ASPI layer. I have no idea what that means. I also tried all 3 versions of cd reader.

I love winamp, but if I can't use it to play cd's, what's the point! Please Help!!!

I also tried emailing the author of cd reader, but have not heard back from him.

Could you possibly supply us with this info please.

IMHO, it would seem that EasyCD has modified your ASPI Layer drivers, thus making support for other software virtually impossible.
The original ASPI drivers are a component of the default Windows installation, so maybe you should attempt to restore them?
Like I said, we need your full sys specs . . .

There's also the possibility that CDReader isn't configured properly:
Prefs (Ctrl+P) -> Input -> CDReader -> config -> drive -> config

Also check to see if "Digital Extraction" is enabled in:
1) System Control Panel -> Device Mgr -> CD-ROM -> device -> properties
2) Multimedia Control Panel -> CD Music

btw #1, have you ever installed any other 3rd party Winamp plugins?
If so, which ones?

btw #2, What was the problem with the default CD plugin?

btw #3, What other programs are running concurrently? (including systray)
Does EasyCD Creator load @ Windows bootup?
start -> run -> msconfig -> startup tab

btw #3, Winamp plays other formats apart from AudioCD.
Essentially, it is an MP3 player, but also supports WAV, WMA, MID, MOD by default, and virtually every other format that exists by use of extra input plugins.
It is not designed to specifically be a CD player, this is just an added feature!
However, this feature works perfectly okay for 99% of users.

My system specs are:

AMD Athlon 751 mhz
64mb RAM
Soundblaster Live Soundcard
Liteon LTN 382 CD ROM
Windows 98
Winamp 2.76
have tried all 3 versions of CD Reader

I have no plugins installed.

When I used the original default CD plugin, i got no sound when playing cd's.

Other concurrently running programs: systray, zone alarm,
Navapw32, Explorer. easy cd creator does not load at windows boot up.

Winamp plays all other file types fine.

Sorry if I've been a pain in the a#$. I just really want this to work. If I do have to restore the windows defaults, how do I do that. Will that make it so I can't use easy cd creator. If so, can you reccomend another program to use to burn cd's.

Try using Nero for burning, http://www.nero.com http://www.ahead.de.

Also, your best best is to re-install you OS.

nope. that didn't work. Not sure I want to go through all the trouble of reinstalling my OS. Thanks anyways. I think I'm giving up.

Either the CD Volume Control isn't selected (or is muted) in Windows Volume Control, or you don't have an audio cable connected from your CD-ROM drive to your soundcard.
You should also try unchecking "sample input from soundcard for vis" in the default CD Plugin config (which you'll need to re-enable first)

btw, probably not relevant, but what's navapw32 exactly?
Is this something to do with Netscape?
If so, is it anything to do with the Netscape Media Player?

You should also bear in mind that the installation of WMP7 could've caused this problem. I take it this plays your CD's ok?
It uses entirely different drivers . . . I've not installed it myself (and never intend to either), but I've a feeling it may disable the default Win98 MCI CDA device driver and give its own device driver higher priority (Multimedia Control Panel -> Devices -> Media Control Devices)
Don't quote me on this theory though!

I'll do a bit more research & look into this matter further
(Thursday is the next available day when I'll have access to a pc with WMP7)
