Constant Buffering After Track Change

Hi all,

I've setup a jukebox style system over my LAN whereby people queue up tracks on a server running Winamp via the httpq plugin and a custom PHP script, then it's played back via the Shoutcast DSP to any clients listening in. This is a small LAN of about 20 people (although we've only had 5 listeners at once so far) and the stream is played at 128Kbps via a 100Mb network card.

Anyway, the stream works fine for the most part, but every now and again, usually when a track change occurs, some of the clients (all using Winamp) will start to buffer the track continuously. Basically the buffer bar fills in under a second, a short part of the track plays, and then the buffer is filled again. This repeats in rapid succession until the user presses play (or stop and play) on Winamp to force a reconnection and then everything works fine once more.

I've tried searching the forum but have found no similar issues and I know it's not a bandwidth issue considering the symptoms and the fact that it's a purely LAN based, private stream. Nor can I see any CPU or RAM issues on the server being used.

Has anybody seen this before and is there a fix?

Thanks in advance for any help. It is much appreciated.

BUMP, i have this problem too.

Shoutcast v2

winamp dsp plugin, it is hooked to my website, the entire track plays fine at ANY bitrate, but as soon a track changes, it constantly buffers every second, as soon as you refresh page it's fixed, this happens while playing the .pls file in vlc as well, so it's not just the website!

firstly, please don't bump multiple threads about an issue (i've removed the other post so it's just this thread for the time being).

what versions of the Source DSP, Winamp and DNAS (including the OS version) are you using?

winamp 5.621 x86
winamp source dsp 2.2.3
windows 7 x64 ultimate
shoutcast 2.0.0.29

is that okay?

also DRO, i had a problem a long time ago, you didn't know the fix too, i know the fix now so i shall share it, sorry for the crappy grammar and re-posting, i know it's silly, i'm actually whining at the wrong time, i have a exam soon, so i'm just rushing.

If you disable "windows event log"(windows service), it will pop up with a error to do with not being able to create system logs or something, if that's not clear enough, i will edit this post in a few days to re-create the exact problem i had.

thank you

5.623 is the current Winamp at the time of this reply though it probably won't make any difference. as for the skipping, i've a feeling it's most likely the Source DSP causing the issue. i've sent you a pm with a new version to try out to see if that is the cause of the issue since VLC shouldn't be having such issues (if it was just the site player then it'd just be that being quirky like it normally does).

I'd assume you're referring to http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=335223. ok that would make sense with the error you were having and what i've since looked into with the Windows service & logging handling. i'm looking to disable the automatic logging of DNAS events to the Windows event logs for non-service instances as it only is really appropriate when used in service mode anyway (and i've changed the error messages in the internal builds so it's clearer what the issue is anyway).

oh well as there's been no recognition of things, i'm going to remove the test build as this is getting ridiculous with how many people who get sent test builds never respond / come back *shrugs*
