I kinda knew so.
Yeah, good quality under 40% is almost impossible.
Every other plugin for winamp is hopeless (Fourier Pitch Tempo Control, PaceMaker, Nullsoft DSP Effects, Chronotron); they can all fast forward pretty good, but the slow-down is super crappy and doesn't even go under 50% most of the times. Scaletempo from VLC is very similar to most winamp plugins, but it allows for some control over the algorithm. It kinda does the trick after some messing around with the settings (by default it's optimized for speed-up, so the "stride" is so long it creates echo effects, and just getting it shorter turns into incomprehensible robot). I think Express Scribe (which is not free) uses an algorithm similar to Procrustes; at 50% the sound is extremely similar (and better than anything else). For me, it's overkill, though, Express Scribe is a dedicated transcription software with tons and tons of needless features to pump up the price. All I need is a decent slow-down, and I'm living in hope I might get it for free out of the kindness of your heart

I redesigned the plugin a little bit and made the scale logarithmic or anti-logarithmic (whatever you prefer, it depends on what "side" you are looking at the scale) so that half and double speeds are at the same distance from 100% (but at opposite sides, of course). I also expanded the scale to 25% (and 400%). I'll upload it soon. But bear in mind that according to Winamp docs a DSP plugin is allowed to return up to two times more samples than it has just received. In practice the behavior used to be that it depended on how long the buffer supplied by the current input plugin was. I don't know if anything has changed now in the recent versions. So you could expect crashes and/or distorted sound in some cases with tempo speeds below 50%.

Awesome
Works great, just as expected.
Haven't had crashes or any trouble so far (though i'm just starting to try it). I'll let you know if I run into trouble. Thanks a bunch. It might have been motivated by very particular needs, but I think the log scale is a natural choice that'll benefit everyone; it just makes sense and it's awesome. Forever grateful. Misael. |

Could anyone please re-upload Procrustes V1.01 and V1.11 alpha to some place as both megaupload and ViSlav's domain are down.
Thanks in advance! |

Procrustes is available on my website
I have made it available as part of the Winamp Modern Folk Dance Skin at:
http://users.hal-pc.org/~clement/Win...ce%20Skin.html It is in the plug-in package along with other useful things. There is an old copy of the Winamp FLAC decoder since the new one does not work with Chronotron. You might find the Modern Folk Dance Skin to be interesting as I have rethought the old Modern Winamp skin to do all kinds of things. The look and feel is similar with extra functions and some seasonal pictures available. So rather than having different skins for different seasons this one skin allows you to just switch at the press of a button. With just a little editing you can create new skin overlays. In addition it has the ability to put dead space between tracks and even have Winamp stop after any particular track. Along with this is the ability to mark a begining and end point of a particular track so you can repeate it or go back to a specific place. There is also a live time counter that tells you the remaining time in your play list. It is really designed to be used for recreational dance or dance instruction. So enjoy Procrustes and check out my skin. |

Thank you for the quick answer!
I installed the winamp essentials (did you mean that with plugin pack?). I don't find anything besides the Nullsoft plugin in Settings -> DSP/Effects. Or could you please give me a direct link to the package, I didn't find the link to the plugin pack? Perhaps I'm blind... :-) |

Stupid fking usa scum government agency parasites taking down megaupload.
dsp_proc.dll the non alpha version... This version dsp_proc.dll is V1.11a, Using SSE.. I've uploaded it here... http://www68.zippyshare.com/v/61429611/file.html http://ryushare.com/84dkafrofoyq/dsp_proc.dll http://bayfiles.net/file/YKZn/UhE1L6/dsp_proc.dll http://rghost.net/49735355 http://d01.megashares.com/dl/baHJa8p/dsp_proc.dll http://www.sendmyway.com/r9ys8td7dmyk/dsp_proc.dll.html hopefully one of these sites survives or deadamp is replaced by something better that actually offers improvements. I had the others, but lost them and tbh this version was the best overall. Maybe ViSlav will be around again. My signature was just too damn good to be seen here..
