Winamp doesnt play Wave files for some reason

Hi everyone,

i reinstalled windows and installed latest winamp, but for some reason it doesnt play Wave files. I tried to google for the solution before posting this issue, but none of the solutions worked ive found.

I can play perferctly fine Wave files on Windows Media Player and other players, but on winamp i cant. It just doesnt give any playback when i press play.

Any ideas what can be ? Its really annoying thing, and i use quite alot of wave files to playback.

It's probably an installation error or omission, but you have provided none of the details needed to help solve the problem. The minimum is a complete report of your configuration.

http://nunzioweb.com/daz/14nunz.html

You should at least skim through the forum sticky listing the details that need to be provided for effective troubleshooting.

Listing of installed input plug-ins (in_*) and the relevent apis which they indicate that they
support to allow you to see how well the plug-in is likely to work with different Winamp builds.

Note: This is a best guess at how well the plug-ins shown should work with Winamp and until
you actually use the plug-ins with Winamp in normal use you will not otherwise know.

A * means the plug-in has support for metadata queries on a file (2.9+)
A # means the plug-in supports saving modified metadata via Winamp apis (2.9+)
A % means the plug-in supports the unified file info dialog and a '%+' shows it adds its own pages (5.5+)
A || means the plug-in supports the api_decoder used for transcoding/replaygain/etc (5.34+)

A || means the plug-in supports the api_decoder used for transcoding/replaygain/etc (5.34+)

Summary:

'One for Nunz' found 16 installed input plug-ins in 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp\Plugins'
87% (14) of the plug-ins installed provide the needed 5.x api ("winampGetExtendedFileInfo(..)
or winampGetExtendedFileInfoW(..)") to allow the formats provided by the plug-ins to work with
most of Winamp 5.x's features (more important with higher versions).

Unicode Taskbar Compatibility Listing

The plug-ins listed below show references to the SetWindowLongA(..) OS api. If this api is used to
subclass Winamp's main window, it can cause Winamp's display of unicode text in the taskbar to fail.
For a plug-in to be compatible it needs to use the unicode version of the api - SetWindowLongW(..).

Being listed here does not mean a plug-in will cause the issue as there are legitimate reasons for
a plug-in to be using SetWindowLongA(..) but it is a good indicator for people who know which ones
are compatible to route out plug-ins which are likely to be causing the issue. Only those plug-ins
which do not also show references to the SetWindowLongW(..) OS api have been included in this list.

If you do experience the issue then there is a way to fix the plug-in(s) if the original author is
no longer supporting or around to fix the plug-in(s) to use SetWindowLongW(..) for the subclassing
by installing the Unicode Taskbar Fix from http://nunzioweb.com/daz/unicodetaskbarfix/index.html

If you use the forum's search feature, you will find many threads discussing wav files and various issues old and new.

My version of Winamp (5.63 (Build 3235 FINAL_2012_0628_151026)) is using these input plug-ins for wav files:

Nullsoft Waveform Wrapper v1.3 [in_wav.dll]
Nullsoft Waveform Decoder v3.19 [in_wave.dll]

what he is saying is that your version of those plugins are older than what you should have.

if you truly did a clean install of 5.63, u should not be having an issue.

Now, I'm confused. Did you reinstall Winamp after you reinstalled Windows? If not, then do so and rerun the One for Nunz report.

Depending on how you reinstalled Windows, there may be some bad Winamp related entries left in the registry. You may be better served to use an uninstaller like "Geek Uninstaller" or "Revo Uninstaller" to completely remove all traces of Winamp from your computer, letting you start over fresh.

I did clean install of windows, first i formated C, installed windows in it, then installed Winamp and i see that it doesnt read for some reason wave files. Since its totaly clean install, there are no related entries of Winamp in registry...

Windows Media player plays fine wave files, my DAW plays fine wave files, only winamp doest play. Can you just tell what are the reasons might be that winamp doesnt play wave files and what might the solutions be?

If you are sure there are no Winamp entries in the registry, then that is part of your problem. During installation of Winamp, you had the opportunity to select the types of files you wanted Winamp to open and play. This info is written to the registry at that time and must be there in order for Windows to know and allow Winamp to work with those file types.

The other part of your problem is, according to the configuration report you posted, you are using the wrong versions of the wav file decoders provided with version 5.63 of Winamp.

It is possible for Winamp to update it's registry entries after installation, but I will not go into that because the state of your current installation is in question. My last post gave info on how to remove whatever Winamp files and settings you have installed now and suggested you start over. If you, for some reason, do not want to (or will not) install Winamp properly, I can be of no further assistance.

Good Luck.

It is not installed correctly accordingly to the configuration report you provided. Those are the wrong wav file input plug-in decoders in that report. If there are no registry entries listing wav files among those Winamp can work with, then Winamp with not play them.

What is it you don't understand? Remove what you have and start over.

I'm repeating myself because I don't know any other way to tell you this and I will not frustrate you or myself by trying again.

Maschine,

facts are facts. if you want help, you'd be wise to listen to us. there is no point in fighting with us.

look below, here is what you put in post 3:

Anyhow here is generated info from Nunz

Nullsoft Waveform Decoder v2.06 [in_wave.dll]
if you had truly done a clean install of winamp 5.63, you would not have v2.06 of the wave DLL.

now that is a FACT. so thats what you need to deal with. obviously, as you said, you exchanged the wave DLL.

so, if you want to get working, here is what i suggest you do:

a clean FULL uninstall and then reinstall of winamp, procedure described here:

http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....d=161361#clean

and i would add the extra step of running ccleaner after the uninstall but before the reinstall:

www.ccleaner.com

we are only trying to help you. please improve your attitude.
