Winamp lost right click options
Hello my Winamp just suddenly losts all the options when I right click it on my taskbar. I use to be able to right click on Winamp then play a recently closed mp3 file. Now when I right click Winamp nothing is there anymore.
How can I fix this problem? http://imageshack.us/f/94/98032894.png/ |

Hi phased,
I assume the jumplists are working for other apps you have pinned to the taskbar. This feature is provided by Windows 7. It has nothing to do with Winamp. There are a number of ways to get it working again. The hardest is to find the file that is supposed to save this info for the files played in Winamp and delete it, then Windows will recreate it. This file is stored in a location that is hidden by default and given a name that is a string of numbers and letters that depend on how your computer is configured. I suggest you try the easier things first and it they don't work post back for instructions on how to do the hard one. First be sure that the song file types are associated with Winamp (if you double click on them, they open up in Winamp). If they are (if not, then associate them), unpin Winamp from the taskbar, reboot the computer, and repin Winamp to the taskbar. This should reset the hidden file and get the jumplist working again. If that did not work, you can reset the feature for all the apps you have pinned to the taskbar. This will clear all the jumplists and start them all over again empty of all previous files. To do this, right click on the Start button and select "Properties". Select the "Start Menu" tab, clear the check mark in the 2nd option under "Privacy" (Store and display recently opened items in the Start menu and the taskbar), and click the "Apply" button at the bottom of the dialog box. Re-enter the check mark for that option and click the "OK" button to apply the change and close the dialog box. This should get all the jumplists for all the pinned apps working again with a fresh start. If you rather not reset all your jumplists, post back for instructions on how to find the hidden file just for Winamp. NOTE: If you want to change the number of items displayed in the jumplists (whether you reset them or not), click the "Customize..." button on the "Start Menu" tab. There is a control at the bottom of the customize dialog that lets you choose a number. Windows 10 Home 64-bit v21H2 desktop - Logitech Z906 5.1 speaker system |

Are you saying you reset the jumplists for all your pinned apps and that files opened in the other apps show up again in their jumplists, but songs played in Winamp do not show up in the Winamp jumplist?
If the answer is yes, this suggests that Winamp is not properly registered with Windows. How this could have happened for no reason is very strange. Did you change any Winamp options or add a plug-in that was not there when the jumplist was working? Anyway, unpin the icon and reinstall Winamp over the installation you already have in place. Then repin it and play a song to see if it shows up in the jumplist. What version of Winamp are you using? Windows 10 Home 64-bit v21H2 desktop - Logitech Z906 5.1 speaker system |

there are no jump lists provided by Winamp by default - what is shown in the screenshot is what i would expect from a clean Winamp install (as i've just done on an OS which hasn't had Winamp before and then i played a few songs). the only way to have a jump list is by using http://code.google.com/p/win7shell/

I did not do any changes to Winamp prior to this problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled a fresh Winamp and still no jumplists. I am using version 5.63 now, I was using version 5.621 before the reinstall. Quote:

and i'm saying that there is nothing which is doing it natively in Winamp's code and the only way i have _ever_ come across it is via that plug-in. so either something else was helping it to happen but it was definitely not anything in the native Winamp code.

Hi phased,
I do use the plug-in DrO is talking about, but I thought it just added to the jump list features that Windows 7 provides natively for all apps pinned to the taskbar that are able to open files associated with them. The apps do not need to be the default for running the files. They just need the file types associated with them in the registry. That is why I asked you to check that Winamp was indeed registered to open and play your song files. I was not aware that Winamp needed the plug-in for it to have a jump list. I suggest you try this plug-in, in any case, for the other things it offers that enhance using Winamp, imo. DrO is very expert on Winamp, but you say you saw the list without using this plug-in. The short article linked below discuses the hidden files I was referring to. Use Windows Explorer's Tools - Folder Options menu to enable hidden folders to show your user's %AppData%\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations folder. To determine which file in the folder is associated with Winamp, examine each one with Notepad, looking for the one with text strings containing the words "winamp.exe" and the titles and/or filenames of the songs that were previously listed in the jump list you saw. If deleting and letting Windows recreate this file does not work, I have no more suggestions. The other 2 and this one are the only ones I've tried that have worked for me of the jump list "fixes" you can find with Google. http://angrytechnician.wordpress.com...-in-windows-7/ Windows 10 Home 64-bit v21H2 desktop - Logitech Z906 5.1 speaker system |

Hi phased,
I assume you used the Taskbar Integration options to configure the plug-in properly. Other than that first screen shot, you are not providing any details of what you're seeing. I hope you are following the suggestions correctly. For example, I asked you to reinstall over your installation, but you said you uninstalled, then installed. Did you find the file in the AutomaticDestinations folder? Something has gone wrong with your Winamp installation. I guess it's time to do a complete restart. Remove all traces of Winamp (even it's registry entries) and 3rd party plug-ins and start over. First use the Winamp Backup Tool to save your library database files and other user data files, you do not want to recreate, to a save place. http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=317153 Then get one of the free uninstallers like Geek Uninstaller or Revo Uninstaller that will remove all traces of Winamp. http://www.geekuninstaller.com/download http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_..._download.html Windows 10 Home 64-bit v21H2 desktop - Logitech Z906 5.1 speaker system |
