QO Labs Studio Sound FX Acuity Plugin (Winamp Portable)

Hi,

Just wanted to get some assistance with setting up the QO labs studio sound processor to work with a portable version of winamp.

I've installed version 5.6 at work in my documents which is on a network and not on the C: drive and everything works fine including the Audio Burst FX system output plugin but the studio sound FX sound processor doesn't come up. I can't execute .exe files and the program doesn't detect winamp as being installed. I've extracted the files from the .exe file and thought I would do it manually but I don't know where all the files need to go in order to allow the file paths to detect the plugin.

If anyone has some advice on how to set it up that would be greatly appreciated. The files from the Studio_Sound_FX__FREEWARE.exe are as follows:

Folder 1 - $INSTDIR containing ...._audioburst.dll
Folder 2 - $PLUGINSDIR containing .....Dialer.dll & UAC.dll
Folder 3 - $SMPROGRAMS contaning (folder) QO Labs containing (folder) AudioBurst FX for Winamp containing hot_install.exe
Folder 4 - ý¢€ containing out_burst.dll
file0005.bin
file0007.bin
file0008.bin
script.bin

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Is this a pirated copy of QO Labs Studio Sound FX Acuity? The Dialer.dll & UAC.dll files concern me. Why would this plug-in need those?

they're common files used in NSIS installers (which that is a dump from) for doing elevation during install and related aspects (UAC.dll) and dialer.dll is to do with networking aspects (cannot remember the exact usage).

No, its the installer from winamp plugins website. Its freeware so doesn't need to be pirated.

I tried renaming _auddioburst.dll to out_audioburst.dll and place it in the plugins directory but it loads identical to out_burst.dll without the sound processor!

If you are talking about the plug-in linked below, I tried it with Win 7 over a year ago, but gave it up (even though I liked the sound) because I had to edit the registry between each Winamp session to make it work correctly.

If you look at it's registry settings, you should see that some sections are disabled when you shutdown Winamp. Never could figure out why this was happening and QO Labs did not respond to my requests for help.

Hi billyboy35,

It was a while ago, so I don't remember exactly what I did. If you are not comfortable with editing the registry, there are alternative DSP plug-ins, like Enhancer and Stereo Tool, to improve the sound of low quality mp3s. However, nothing beats using high quality mp3s to start with.

Anyway, use the search feature in Regedit to find the Studio Sound entries. There are groups of them related to the various sections of the plug-in. Within each group there is a control to enable or disable displaying the section, along with controls for how the section is setup. When WA is shutdown, the display of one section was always disabled and I used Regedit to enable it again before restarting WA. Eventually, I exported the 'corrected' section to a .reg file and used it to merge the correction into the registry before starting each WA session.

If you insist on taking this route and can't figure it out yourself, I could try to recreate what I did (PM me). But, I really feel you would be better off using something else.

I assume the intention is for the user to setup this section when the plug-in is first installed and never change it again. This is no way to have to use an app. Maybe this is done to encourage buying the commercial version of this plug-in or it's a bug. Either way, I never got a response from QO Labs to my emails about this problem. Products (free or not) with this kind of support should not be used, imo. Have you tried to contact them, maybe they will respond now?
