Flac transfer for Anroid device
I have Winamp on both my Laptop and my HTC Legend.
I use to be able to transfer my flac files to the mobile, and Winamp would automaticly reencode the songs to fit the phone, but after I cleaned my computer from scratch and reinstalled winamp, I can't anymoore and get a messages saying "Some of the tracks where of an incompatable format and will not be trasnfered". Any help on this? Best Regards Jeppe Johansen |

Hi
Go to: Winamp > Prefs (Ctrl+P) > Media Library > Portables > Android Drive X > Transcoding tab and checkmark "Enable Transcoding of incompatible tracks" and select the desired transcoding Format from the dropdown menu underneath. |

Hello, I know I'm kind of digging up an old thread, but I was wondering if there was any more detail available on this. I maintain my music library mainly in FLAC, and I would like to transcode to 320kbps MP3, as I connect my phone to a decent audio system. When I select the MP3 format to transcode to, there is no bitrate available like when you select it in the format converter. Just wondering what the default was, or if the setting could be changed at all. Thanks in advance for your help - I've been a winamp user as long as I could type.

Why on earth would you want to go from FLAC to MP3 if you are connecting to a decent stereo?
Get a decent album like Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and listen to the difference between FLAC and MP3 (even at 320kbps) and you will never touch an MP3 ever again. Personally... I spent a year ripping 250 CDs to MP3. And then bought a new HiFi system. All the MP3s sounded like they were underwater. So much detail was lost. So I started my ripping mission again to FLAC and the audio quality is back to CD level. (And a year's worth of MP3 rips were discarded in the trash...) |

there are better ways to hookup a stereo then connecting your phone to it. but to answer your Q, i think you need the pro winamp to transcode to mp3.
my suggestion to both people would be to rip everything to FLAC if you have the space, and then setup a utility to create a mirror of everything in mp3, so you don't have to spend time doing that when u want the files for portables. PENN STATE Radio or http://www.LION-Radio.org/ -- BUG #1 = Winamp skips short tracks Wish #1 = Multiple Column Sorting Wish #2 = Add TCMP/Compilation editing |

A modern phone can put out a surprisingly high quality signal. So connecting a phone isn't too strange an idea. Especially if you think about when you visit a friend, you have your music collection with you.
Yes you need Pro to rip to MP3, but it is such a cheap licence it is worth paying for even if you don't use MP3. Keyser_Soze_09 clearly must have a licence as he says he has MP3 ripping options but is missing the Encoder options. I assume if you haven't paid for the MP3 licence it wouldn't show MP3 as a choice at all. Just plugged in my phone and can see all the Encoder Options. So it is hard to say what is wrong with Keyser_Soze_09's copy of Winamp. One thought - have you correctly updated the Advanced page to list the supported formats for your phone? |
