MP3 files to ACC Broadcast

I am new to this so apologize if this is a simpleton question:

I have mp3 format files playing on my server.. but would like to be able to stream to iphones and such.. do I need to remove all the mp3 files & replace them with ACC files? or will the mp3 files broadcast to iPhones/android by simply changing the stream type?

thank you for your time & assistance.

those devices should be more than able to cope with MP3 streams (as AAC support on Android hasn't been too great from what i've gathered).

however to achieve an AAC and MP3 stream from the same MP3 source files, you'd need to look at using a Transcoder to generate an AAC copy of the stream from the MP3 files.

ahh ok .. so if I add on the AAC+ Streaming (for $10 mo) from listen2myradio.com .. there is nothing more I need to do? or do the mp3 files need to be converted to acc? (not sure what the transcoder does.. if it converts mp3 to acc while its streaming.. or if I must convert all the files to acc in order for them to stream) because right now the station wont play through iphones or any other devices besides computer.

thank you very much for your help!

i cannot answer that as i've no idea what listen2myradio's package would do. this is something you'd need to query with them.

Transcoders will take the input files and generate the required output stream, so the original files remain untouched and there's no need to generate a copy of the file in the required format. though if you're doing a specific number of files continuously then it might be better to have them pre-encoded as AAC.
