how to announce if i cannot use soundcard input
Hello all,
i finally gave up on dr. mighty google, and asking my question here. i am broadcasting on an internet radio, but i cannot make any announcement. The reason for that, when i choose "soundcard input", even though i dont hit push to talk, it just takes sound from my microphone. That is, say I am just playing a song on the radio, it does not take the sound from winamp, but it takes it from whatever comes to my microphone. in order to prevent that, i chose "winamp (recomended) but then i cannot make any announcement what is the fix for this? i have been really trying to find a solution for 4 months now. epic fail! |

it is noted in the known issues http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=348318#known (and also the documentation http://wiki.winamp.com/wiki/Source_D...ixer_Control_2 that it will not work as expected on all new OSes as you want. there are also numerous threads about this so i'm struggling to believe you've never come across them in your 4 months of searching.
simple summary is that the Source DSP will not work as you want it to do on the OS you are using so you need to find extra Winamp plug-ins that will do it or look at using a dedicated broadcast software which will do what is wanted. the Source DSP is just a basic solution and has its limitations. |

thank you for your response DrO.
i have seen similar problems, so, i do understand your disbelief that I have not seen this anywhere. I have seen it, but i could not find a solution. and it seems ridiculous that there is no fix for this. I mean, how can that be? this is the single most important thing. many people use this to broadcast. if we cannot, what is the point. switch to foobar then ? |

if it is that important to you then you need to be using what fits your needs and if relying on a free and provided as-is plug-in does not fit your needs then you need to use an alternative source plug-in or actually use dedicated broadcasting software which will do what you want.
yes it is ridiculous as you put it and i fully know the issue needs to be fixed (including the vile abuse that some people have sent me about this not being done) but it is something that has not happened as time and resources are finite (if people paid for the plug-in then it probably would have been fixed by now). it only worked on XP and earlier due to hacks in the way that audio worked and those no longer work on Vista and higher and without a complete re-code of how the plug-in does the PTT and associated feature it will not natively do what you want. as such there is nothing i can say or do that will appease you as there is nothing on my official work schedule to even start on fixing this any time soon. |
