Not Finding Music
Running WinAmp Pro on Android (Motorola Razr Maxx), but it is not finding any of my music.
BACKGROUND Previously was running it on another Razr Maxx and initially it worked fine. Added some music to the same folder and it never showed up in WinAmp Pro. Lived without it. Now, had to replace the Razr Maxx for other issues. Re-installed Winamp Pro. In order to tell it where to look for music, I went to "Folders," found the correct folder where music is stored on my SD card, long-pressed it, selected "Set Home." That folder icon now shows a musical note graphic on it, whereas none of the other folder icons do. Back to main menu. Tried "Artists" and tried "Albums," but none of my music shows up. (By the way, I tried another music app and it does find, list and play this music, so the folders are not corrupt.) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Hi
What's the Android OS version? 2.3.x or 4.0.x? You could try clearing the Android media database... 2.x = Android Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All > Media Storage > Clear data 4.x = Android Settings > Apps > All > Media Storage > Clear data Restart the phone, then wait a few minutes for the media database to be rebuilt before opening the Winamp app. |

I believe it is 1.4.10. Haven't received a message to update it, but I only installed it last night.

1.4.10 is the Winamp app version, which is the latest version in production.
I meant the Android OS version, eg. Gingerbread 2.3.6 or Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 or whatever. But no worries, try clearing the media database anyway, and see if that fixes things.... |

Duh, sorry, the Android version is 4.0.4.
I tried your suggestion, but it didn't work. Just to be sure I didn't miss anything, these are the steps I took: 1. Went to "Manage Apps" and selected WinAmp. 2. Selected "Clear Data." (Note, it said 0.00 on SD Card.) 3. Said "Ok" to the "Delete app data?" warning. 4. Exited back out to main screen and rebooted (not just shut down) phone. 5. Waited 5 min. 6. Started WinAmp. 7. Waited 2 min. 8. Selected "Artists" Nothing shows up other than a ringtone. Same if I selected "Albums" or "Songs." 9. Re-set the correct folder as the home folder. (I think I'm doing this right -- after I went to "Folders," navigated to the correct folder, long pressed that folder, and selected "Set home," the music note icon now appears on the folder.) Still nothing. |

By the way, if I go to "Folders" and navigate to an mp3, the mp3 does play.

Actually EMN that is close but it does not clear the Android Media database.
Bring up Settings -> Application Manager Select All column Scroll down to Media Storage and click it Press delete data |

No. It still doesn't list them. Nothing under Artists, Albums or Songs. Thought it might for a moment because it was searching, but nothing lists.

While waiting for another idea, I tried the following (that didn't work):
Uninstalled WinAmpPro Cleared data from Media Storage (as directed by JMullins, above) again. Power off Removed SD Card Power on Reboot Re-installed SD Card Power on Reboot again Waited 3 min Re-installed WinAmp Waited 5 min Opened WinAmp Waited 3 min Opened "Folders," navigated to music folder on SD card, long press, "Set Home" Exited to main window Waited 3 min Selected "Artists" It searched a long time, but came up empty again. |

The problem seems to be with WinAmp reading the SD card. I tried moving one song to the Razr Maxx's internal memory (which it also treats as an SD card) and it found it without problem.
Remember, though, that WinAmp on my previous Razr Maxx was able to read this same SD card, so it doesn't seem to be a limitation of the Razr Maxx. And if I manually browse to a song on the SD card, this current WinAmp can play it, so it isn't that it can't read the SD card. Am I properly telling it where to look for music? (Folders / Browse to audio folder / long press / select "Set home".) |

Interesting.
After posting the last note, I left it alone for several hours last evening. Checked before I went to bed, and still no music. But this morning, the music was all there. Not one to leave well enough alone, I added two albums this morning. Tried to access Artists. It searched and searched for more than two hours, before finally coming up with all of the music, including the new ones. I'm not sure this is a totally resolved issue (it shouldn't take that long to find music, and, as noted earlier, WinAmp on my last Razr Maxx using the same SD card never did find all of the music) but it's resolved for now. I'll have to play with it some more. Meanwhile, thanks to DJ Egg and JMullins for your help. |

I am certain that someone will correct me. ;^)
But I believe that Winamp uses the Android media database to find its music (unless looking in folder view). That was why clearing the media db could have helped. It forces Android to search out all media and rebuild the db. Why it took so long I don't know. I could guess that the sd card may be only marginally compatible with your new phone. You might want to check the Razr website to see. It took my S3 about 30 minutes to find ~47Gb on my SD card. |
