Station GENRE change

Hi.
I am trying to figure out how to make a change to our radio station. It is miraculously moved to category POP.
It is a Russian station, and we would like it to be in International---> Russian.
Not sure how to make that happen.
and, also, the name is BFM Radio (Russian)
Thank very much.

it's because there's a difference in the genre reported by your 2 DNAS. once is set as 'Russian' (which is a supported genre as per the list at http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=303241) and the other is set as 'Russian & Various'.

so you need to ensure both of the DNAS have the same genre set i.e. ensure that it's set to what you specifically want in the source software feeding them. doing that will get you listed in the genre you want (otherwise the YP servers will try to best guess on what is provided as the genre string which is not reliable as you have seen).

Thanks

The SAM Broadcaster encoder is set to RUSSIAN genre.

The Stream provider is set to RUSSIAN in genre field.

Where else should I make a change?

Thanks much.

i see you've changed things now so both of the DNAS are the same. as such it can take up to 30mins for the change to appear on the site. though if it doesn't after that time, it could be a new YP bug that you've found.

i find your listing (based on the station name you had provided), i look at the tune-in playlist, i then look at the summary page from the DNAS servers listed in the tune-in playlist.

I think I was blocked on here... suddenly. Have no idea why

One message did not go through... said: waiting for moderator approval.

I do not see that info that you were talking about. All i see: bit rate, station name, listeners, and category.

That's about it.

PS Thanks for helping me though. Want a song? I will play it for you.

not sure why the forum software auto-filtered the post before the one above.

i was looking at the contents of yp.shoutcast.com/sbin/tunein-station.m3u?id=274508 which provides the links to the DNAS which is where the details then show.

it looks like you are hitting a new bug (where it's having issues matching the genre string).

i've attempted a manual override of the listing details which has worked for a direct API request test but has not updated on the site (so you may need to restart one of the servers to get it to update properly instead of via my hacky method).

only downside of this means any changes you make will not be applied since it's like running a v2 DNAS with an authhash applied on it.

Well, if I look thru a site, it still reads POP

If I use winamp media library, it show RUSSIAN underneath the station name.

and if I pick in the list of categories there RUSSIAN, it is listed there.

Strange.

Is it possible to use more than one category? I added 'Russian space Pop space dance"

That was like 12 hrs ago, so far, it only says Russian.

Thanks

as i said, anything you try to change now will not be applied as part of the forced values i'd applied. i've checked everything else i can at the moment and internally the listing is using 'Russian' as well.

it's just the main site which seems to be holding onto the old value which is not something i've the means to get resolved any time soon (the best i can do is log the issue internally until i can get time allocated to work on the YP).

only 1 genre is supported for a listing (which i linked to the thread showing the supported values earlier in this thread) and has been that way for years.

simple summary is everything on your side is working as expected, it's something with one or more of the shoutcast.com site servers which is not working correctly and there's nothing else which can be done until developer time is allocated to work on the issue.

they are keywords and are taken as the genre string with a v1 based listing or the keyword field when making a v2 based authhash. and with a v1 based listing, the genre is then attempted to worked out from the string (even if it's made up of lots of strings) which is part of the reason why you were getting 'pop' instead of russian before.

i can apply 'Russian Space Pop Dance' to the forced listing details (though in most cases it won't really help people better find your listing), but if the site isn't liking to show the updates at the moment then even if i do that (which i've now done whilst making this reply) then it's not going to show until whatever is going on with the site is fixed.
