Good to see you around.
Not a lot. I did hear Mr007 bought himself a big pair of boots and is now a member of the same clog dancing team as MrJones. Good to see them getting on together. rockouthippie struck oil on his ranch and is now an international playboy. Egg still hasn't hatched. UJ |

Joel!!! Heyhey!
Yeah, I briefly came out of my shell for a few months back in 2006 ish, or was it 2007, I can't remember now... Didn't like what I saw in the big old bad old world, so grabbed a tube of Polyfilla to seal the cracks and crawled back in again. I vow to resurface one day, to take on the big bad face-to-face... so be prepared, o wicked world! :-) |

Reminds me of Calimero:

Quite a roll call in this thread. Glad to see everyone. It's amazing how insanely young my account is compared to almost everyone here, despite it being well over 7 years old.

That'd be fun for sure. It's weird looking at the old forums, still looks about the same. I still wonder sometimes what the old crew is up to, Xerx and Bilbo, Mia, xzxzzx, rm, the pabook guys, shit that was so damn long ago. Nobbys post count should be in the millions by now. I'm terrified to click that 'find all posts' link in my profile and see 15 year old me posting undoubtedly wise and well thought out internet opinions. Good times. ![]() e: Oh dear god the count to a million thread is still going

Hey, Joel. Glad to see that you've seen the light and moved on to Arch from Debian!

Yes, we will be summering on the Riviera this year after exploiting the peasants. Maybe I'll meet a nice woman to be intolerant of.

My solution to the linux bloatware problem is to install centos minimal and put a window manager on top of it. If you wanted a build environment without a bunch of monkeying around, it's also the bullet. This is my laptop. Centos minimal. Graphics, wifi , sound, webcam Gnome and Chrome. A homemade Chromebook? Pretty close. Last edited by rockouthippie; 18th May 2013 at 05:26. |

Arch is wonderfully minimal. CentOS? Even if you don't select any package groups during install, it still gives you lots of stuff.
That being said, CentOS is all I use on servers. It's rock solid. Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full of tapes hurtling down the highway. |

Centos minimal doesn't even install a window manager. If you're lucky, you have an ethernet driver. I run a couple of dedicated servers for my web adventures. Centos 6 is nice.
Centos minimal is only about 300 MB. You can go from there to LAMP or a desktop painless. Like I said my laptop has Gnome and 1 program .... Chrome.... Google voice works. Graphics accelerated html5 games work. It boots to Chrome running as a kiosk in less that 15 seconds. Turn it on. The machine is a web browser. It doesn't get more uncluttered than that. Gnome installs a couple widgety things, but this box doesn't even have gedit. No games. No productivity software of any kind. It boots Chrome. That's all. That's about what I need my laptop for. Web browse. Make Google voice calls. It has Windows 7 too, but I think it's been a year since I used that. |
