Well, this thread is namely for cyana and those who helped me in my first post. I know this is my first skin, still way far from finished, and may look rather stupid, but I felt I have, so far, put alot of work into it, still tossing around ideas for this, but one of the reasons I wanted to show you guys this was to show that I figured how to do the button transperancy things and to also see if this was gonna be a gay idea or not. Like I said, it still needs ALOT of work, I haven't even done the playlist window, or minibrowser, and there are changes that need to be made to more of the buttons as you can see, and icons need to be edited. Again, thanks to all who have helped me so far. You made things ALOT easier on the newbie so far.

By the way, is this idea look stupid? I've only been doing this skinning thing for like 4 days now but I'm sure I'll get better over time, plus I'm limited on my graphics programs =(

geoshitties don't allow outside links dude. Try Tripod, or somewhere else if you want us to see your image. That is, unless your pic really is a white box with a little red x in it.

...a blatant person.

Dammit....hehehe....nahhh I may be bad but not that bad. Well I guess I'll have to ditch the geocrap and go elsewhere.

Free graphics programs for Voodoo.

Dude, if you want, you can get a pretty decent array of graphics programs free. Go to somewhere like

http://www.cnet.com/downloads

and do a search for "graphics editors" or "graphics programs." Grab a few of the freebies that sound promising and try it. One thing you ought to get if you plan on getting serious about skinning is an RGB finder. I personally use "Colour i5" which is free and works great. All you do is drag the target around your desktop/pic whatever, and it will give you the rgb value, with all the other numerical conversions you need, of any pixel. "Satori" is another good free editor for pics that lets you do a bunch of effects and stuff, although it has a bit of a learning curve. "Image Forge" is a great free alternative to mspaint, with lots of extras. Anyways, happy hunting and welcome to the show.

I always did it that way too, until I got ambitious one day and tried the thing. Now I love it. It's one of those things that you get hooked on once you try it.

it worked.

It worked fine, although all I saw was the main and the eq. I assume that was all you had posted?

Q: Is the eq going to blend in with the main picture, or are you keeping the blue color scheme for it?

Well , I thought about that after I posted the pic and thinking of trying to blend them. And by the way, the eq and main is all I've done so far =( The thing I keep doing is getting really far into and scrapping an idea and starting over because I have a hard time making up my mind what looks good. I'm really concerned what looks appealing to others. I don't wanna make something lame.

I do have a question however....from other peoples point of views, is it more appealing to have a seperate BG image for each section or have one image blend all the way down between the eq and main?

Don't worry about it. First lesson of skinning is make one that appeals to you, and screw everyone else's opinions. I guarantee that within a day of submitting it, no matter HOW kickass it is, some jerk will dump on it. Check out some of the forum regular's masterworks, like Cyana's "Porche Boxster," or Lynx's "Woodshop" if you don't believe me. Like any other form of artwork, some will love it some will hate it. As long as you are happy with it, nothing else matters.

Well, it's just important to me that everyone likes it because alot of time goes into a good skin, but yeah, I agree with you on the fact that at least one person dumps on it, cuz I've been browsing the skins, seen some really good ones and then someone makes a dumb ass remark about it. hmmmm...what a shame. Well anyways, I'm gonna be out for a few days but I just wanted to say happy 4th of July to everyone here and thanx for everything. You guys are all really cool!!!!! Keep up the good work as well.....

voodoo, I want to assist e-blackadder (thank you very much for 'masterpiece' <cyanablushing> ) - design the skin on your own - at least the basic design. When it comes to details where you want to achieve a special effect or have some different alternatives, then other opinions can be very helpful. Also, look at skins, the more, the better - look which skins appeal you and try to figure out why you like them.

As to your skin prototype - the (IMHO) real art of skinning is to bring all elements of a skin into dialog - they should interact with each other so that you have a harmonic and stringent design. This needs some experience about the behavior of the different controls - for example I would try to bring your yellow fish in better context with the file visualisation control (it's already nearly there )- with this you could achieve a 'living' effect so that some parts of the fish start to move (natural, more or less) when you play a file.

hope this helps the get the idea
