since winamp is going away....
maybe i suck at searching for an answer or maybe no one has asked for one yet but when winamp is no longer available on dec 20 how would i be able to reinstall it on my android lets say if i reformat it? i have pro which i upgraded through the app is there a place to download this? is the google store keeping the basic file on the market and will it auto upgrade like is has thus far or am i out of luck?

To create a backup of the winamp installer for Android, and your Winamp Pro key.
Use for instance MyPhoneExplorer. It does not require root so you know it. Just remember to plug out the internetcable when you are installing the program on your pc, That way you dont have to click no thanks to candyware aka unwanted programs. http://www.fjsoft.at/en/ https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...xplorer.client After you downloaded the apkfiles you can move it to your dropbox or google drive or whatever to so you have access to your files from your new Google Nexus 8 etc. Instructions for MPE: http://i.imgur.com/keUfKJZ.png If you have a rooted phone you can access the apk files in this folder with a root browser: /data/app Name of the apk files: http://i.imgur.com/MskMiWW.png |

If that is if you bought the prokey separately. If you bought it the inapp way, it should be in the same location as if you bought the key separately. But I'm not 100% certain about it. |

If you're rooted you should be able to just use something like Titanium Backup. It'll back up the app and its data (settings, playlists, etc.) so you can move it between devices that way. If the newer versions of Android break Winamp support though, we're SOL.

But it sounded more like OP wanted the apk files somewhere as a backup. So I showed how it could be done. |

It's dead jim. No Pro on Google Play, *or* the Winamp store. They are both closed down. I just installed Winamp on my phone and was going to upgrade, but I guess now it's too late. Super bummer.

I bought Winamp Pro a couple of days ago, along with Album Washer and Winamp Lyrics via the Winamp Store. They announced the shut down the very next day.
I uninstalled/reinstalled Winamp Pro just now (troubleshooting something), but the link within the app to the Winamp Store is now dead. Is there any way to reinstall Album Washer and Winamp Lyrics? I just bought them! |

Last night I have discovered, that this link in post #8 doesn't work anymore.
Fortunately I have downloaded different .apk-files in different versions from different websites directly onto my PC. I have copied them onto my many USB-sticks and onto my notebook, and I have also backed up them onto filehoster, because suddenly an apartment or a house can be destroyed by a fire. I have copied the newest and most important .apk-files to my devices via Windows Explorer. I was able to install such .apk-files on my Archos 43 and on my Odys Xelio. will there be a way to access winamp for android pro after the 20th? i will be getting an android phone soon but i doubt it will be before the 20th.
i have downloaded the apk file for the software so i should be able to install it, but for the pro version i am at a loss. and it has some features i really want! please help, i am willing to pay! |

We're just going to have to wait and see what happens.
Maybe someone else will buy/acquire the whole package before the shutdown? Maybe they won't... If there's a complete shutdown, then I'm sure there'll be plenty of other places hosting the Pro Stub and Free apk files. The Pro features will still be unlocked/recognized because all we do is check for a valid purchase on Google Play/Wallet. Your purchase order listing won't go away, so the paid-for features should still be operational. Album Washer might eventually stop working if/when the Gracenote license expires. But I think it's good for a while yet. Other than that, the Pro features and Lyrics should continue working, even after reformatting & reinstalling. There just won't be any more official updates, and no downloads on Google Play. Remember, the key words here at the moment are "the final AOL/Nullsoft release" ;-) It ain't over until the fat lady sings. Keep praying :-) |

I don't make online-banking and I don't use a credit card, because these payment methods are very dangerous (You can be hacked and suddenly You can have many debts), so that I have never bought Winamp Pro for the desktop & Android. Also it would be very dangerous to login with the e-mail-address & password on an Android device. The login on a PC at home isn't so dangerous... Thank You. This month another artist has told me that, too. But it's already too late, Winamp Pro is not available anymore...

Last week I saw the Google Play cards in the supermarket the first time (they offer the iTunes cards much longer). Why didn't they offer the Google Play cards already 1 year earlier? It would have been much better. For me it is too late now...
In Germany teenagers and people with only less incomes would never get a credit card. I took a look in the internet: There are different kind of cards for payments in the internet. I got knowledges about prepaid cards in November. If we would have more incomes, I would have been able to buy better devices, such devices, which are supported by Google Play. Then I would have been able to get the apps directly from Google Play. I would have created a different account on Google just for the Google Play Store, with a different password, so that I wouldn't have to worry about being hacked. Someone else had said, I should use the same Google-account, which I use also for YouTube. The time will tell, if Google Play will offer the free Winamp app also after the 20th December, but at least I know, that also the Android-user have a account on Google and not only the YouTube-user... I have some further questions now, and there will be not enough time anymore...
If the website and the associated webservices will be shut down on the 20th December, will SHOUTcast Radio in Winamp for Android continue to work or will it stop working? I know only from a YouTube-Video, that the Android-User can enter a Radiostation-URL manually. If I know, that SHOUTcast Radio will still work, then I don't have to worry so much. I can ask also, if the Album Washer and the Lyrics will still work, they both are in-app-purchases, and some user had bought them. I think, they are dependent on online services of winamp.com, if I am not wrong. But I think, the question about SHOUTcast Radio in Winamp for Android is more important. I myself have no handy with Android yet, only the cheap devices, which I use in airplane mode. I had tried once to get a WLAN-connection, but maybe the WLAN of our old router didn't already work anymore, only the cable LAN (before our router had died totally). Also if no Winamp 1.4.16 will come out anymore after Winamp 1.4.15, and after Jelly Bean the new Kit Kat has come out, I am still hoping, that the latest Winamp for Android Version will work also on Kit Kat and later Android OS and not only on Jelly Bean. SHOUTcast is safe for now and not affected. So it will continue working.
The android purchases should continue to be recognized, as we just check google wallet for a valid purchase order. However, there does seem to be an issue with the Lyrics add-on not being recognized (or the Lyrics button missing) after reinstalling. I would normally report this type of issue to the Android team devs... however, they all left a few weeks ago :-( As for the future, I can't say anything at the moment due to legal reasons, but let's just wait and see. All I can say is people should not jump to conclusions. Don't believe everything you read on news/tech sites, because a lot of it is based on assumption. I was taught to never assume anything.... If and when there is any update, there will be some sort of official announcement to let everyone know. it has been definitely confirmed now that my android phone will not be arriving before next week so im wondering if anyone has ANY suggestions as to how i can ensure to get the PRO version of winamp for android. maybe just buy it via pay pal somehow and when the phone arrives, install the app and vouch for the pro version.
the features in the pro version seem almost crucial and im afraid i will miss out on them... |
