Apart from Winamp 2.x and 3.x how many of you skin for other programs? I just downloaded Opera due to Jones' rantings about it and discovered it was partially skinnable. I'm not saying I will but I was looking through and it's not to complex to do.
Also, how many of you design web sites? How many can code HTMl and how many other web formats such as PHP, ASP, etc? I skin Winamp (obviously) and dabble in web design. I know HTML fairly well (ie I could build a page in Notepad if I so wished). I'm thinking of learning a more interactive and powerful web language. What do you think I should learn, ASP, PHP, XMl, or something else? BTW, Happy 200th post skinme! Have a vodka on me!

Pourquoi?
Why anyone wants to voluntarily get into ths scripting stuff is beyond me. I think computers should do the donkey work so you don't have to. Anyway, why not look at this Webmonkey article for a comparison?
I posted in the other thread but I don't want it to look like I only ever design for money. I didn't get payment for the Savalas job, just experience in Flash. The only other site I've done is my own, slightly neglected HTML effort which has my student and other work on it (more for print than screen though and Dreamweaver/Fireworks did a lot of the work ).

Re: Pourquoi?
Skinning:
YerTV - 2 or 3 skins (and I did code 2.x until we died!) at skinz.org still I guess ![]() WinAMP - 6 skins, only one or two are still worth using. Others are too old skool. ICQ - Had a go, couldn't be bothered Wallpapers - Quite a few: http://www.skinmaster.co.uk/skinz HTML - You're joking right ![]() http://www.skinmaster.co.uk - and I did the GFX! http://www.fuckingbrit.com - Did the logo, the rest is a standard theme from phpNuke for the design, the old site was all me. http://www.shadesofgod.co.uk - Did everything except the logo http://www.offyertits.com - closed to the public, but all me ![]() Scripting: ASP, PHP, TCL, Vignette, VBS Um it's what I do for a living! Here's what I do in my time: http://www.skinmaster.co.uk - All php stuff, mostly GNU code ported to my needs. http://www.fuckingbrit.co.uk - PHPNuke on this version, my own ASP on the last http://www.shadesofgod.co.uk - My PHP and phpBB (GNU) http://www.snakenetmetalradio.com - All my ASP Quote:
My tuppence worth: ASP is easier to learn, less powerful, more expensive to get hosting for. PHP is more powerful, harder to learn, cheaper to host, and you can get code to do most everything that you can adjust to your exact needs easily as most PHP apps are GNU (Free, with source code) check out http://www.hotscripts.com tada. Happy 200th skinme!!!
![]() Hmm..icons! skinning icons is quite nice,if you don't like win's defaults and aren't too lazy ![]() Winamp-why would I post here if not ? Languages...html is easy, xml is the same principle as far as I know (WA3 is waiting) ![]() Tried to learn Java Script but didn't get far...I didn't spend much time on it though... The only real programming language i know is -guess what- the oldfashioned Pascal (school-anybody else, too?)

Skins... Only done three true skins that saw the light of day, with another five in partially completed or final photoshop draft form... Fluent in HTML and BASIC, with some to a fair amount of comprenenshion of Java, JavaScript and C++. Do lots of web designing, graphic designing, etc... I just haven't let much of my work out to be viewed by the masses. I never feel satisfied. :P Working on technique.

to anser the question
i'm busy with my first skin now, it is though, but allright..
i think PHP is best to learn, cause it's unix based(read:freeware) Asp for instance only runs on the microsoft IIS server, but the web standarad server is apache. and it's much easier to learn than CGI(perl) |

I could make my name appear on the screen using Pascal and make it scroll using COMAL! If only I'd stuck in at my school programming. By now I could make my name appear in different colours!
![]() Sorry if it seemed I was being disparaging about programming. Just understand I'm a designer first and a computer user second so I don't relish this stuff the way some of you do. If I had any aptitude for programming I'd probably love it too especially considering the money that can be made. There's no escape from it though. After getting thoroughly sick of Macromedia Director and its twisted ways I get into Flash and find most of the cool stuff needs Actionscript to work. If only webmonkeys really existed I could get a mad interactive site going for the price of a bag of peanuts. (Anyone seen that Simpsons episode where Homer charges room service to the company and Mr Burns tries to send his 'flying' monkeys to get him? "Oh well back to the laboratory". Classic (I may be the only person who thinks this but hey).)

Ahhh... Q-BASIC
I remember the memories. My school has just (this year) upgraded the entire school network to Windows 98 (instead of 3.11) and even now has the Internet! As a result, DOS got ditched somewhere along the line. Along with Q-BASIC. That's what made me learn to socialise

heehee, I had a cool little proggy for my calculator that would get you around required memory wipes. You could run it, and make it appear that your memory was completly clear. I never used it, but I made a few bucks.
![]() As far as stuff I've done, it's kind of dodgy. When I want to do something, I learn enough of it's respective code to get it done. Sometimes I do enough of one thing to get around pretty easily. Most of what I've done is game related. Congrats skinme!! ...a blatant person. |

I was hoping you might translate into Dutch for him what happens when he tells other forum members , in particular "me", to "fuck on with your question very stupid".
I'm sure you don't need me to spell it out

I don't think the word moderator needs to be translated though ![]() But if you insist... moderator means something you don't want to mess with hehehe... in short I'd like to suggest PUIKradio Alternative #1 to pick on somebody his own size Other wise there could be trouble.... ![]() ![]()
