#1 - it seems that you've not looked any of the docs provided with the DNAS (with the teal header colour) as that answers everything. and those examples are 'patchy' since they are there to show specific cases in relation to the base config file and are not the primary thing recommended to be used as per the getting started guide if you're starting fresh &/or don't know how to edit config files (which is all that 1.x allowed for).

#2 - sc_trans does not exist as a product anymore. whether you need to be able to generate multiple streams from the same content is down to your requirements and what you use is then down to what you need in your setup.
