Disable monetisation features entirely

Hey there,

I run a commercial-free stream on the latest DNAS with zero advert tagged mp3s in rotation. However, the DNAS admin page does show the stream having "Monetisation Enabled". Just today I've noticed intro adverts playing every time I connect to the stream. The DNAS log also shows these messages fairly often:

Is it possible to disable the ad system entirely, either through RMO or DNAS config?

It looks like it's getting worse.. now I'm hearing an Advert played as an intro before the stream connects in.. I have no advert files playing but now it seems listeners are forced to hear the intro ad before connecting to stream

Yeah jcnyct, same thing I noticed - an intro ad when I connected to my stream this morning. Glad I'm not the only one. Pretty f'd up when I'm proclaiming to be commercial-free & listener supported. Gonna be time to go 100% Icecast if this doesn't get a resolution.

Same issue here. I created a new Authhash NOT using the SHOUTcast RMO and no more roll out ads.

Shoutcast should not be inserting pre-roll ADs to any radio stations especially radio stations paying hosting fees.

I guarantee you, if they don't correct this issue, many stations will be bailing out and looking for other hosting service.

They better fix this quickly before it goes viral and a major protest will begin.

This issue is not limited to those being hosted by SHOUTcast. Any service provider, where you created your authhash at the SHOUTcast RMO, will have the ads inserted if that host is using DNAS 2.5.x.

Do radio stations have to remove their AUTO HASH in order to stop the annoying pre-roll ad?

we tried removing authhash but it only worked on a station that just has one mount/stream per port - once authhash was removed, pre-roll/intro ads stopped playing

However, removing the authhash did not solve the issue on a station with multiple mount points/streams per port - once authhash was removed, pre-roll/intro ads continue to play along with long waiting times just to connect

One of my relays doesn't seem to be affected with ads but I think that's because it's 192k and they don't have ads in that format..

Surely if you just give the listeners the direct link to your shoutcast stream then they won't hear adverts?

its only people tuning in through the shoutcast site that hear the ads I think.

Everyone hears the ads.. they are injected into your stream by the RMO service.

I'd be switching back to v1.9.8 if I was still broadcasting... Radionomy suck they really do.

Confirmed quick fix. I switched to non-ad-supported bitrate. 192k MP3 and 64k AAC

BUT... I noticed a ton of oddities with my whole relay network yesterday.. I was unable to tune in and listen to ANY of my mount-points although the network was up and listeners were still connected. The log tail revealed people able to still connect and kick off a stream but certain people (confirmed in our chatroom) including me were getting dead-air on our web player and other places. HTTP/GET in Chrome Dev Tools showed the HTTP request was just hanging. If I switched to a forwarded port the stream would load. The concerning part about this is that it affected all relays in the cluster. I waited until off-peak hours to troubleshoot further. It seemed like a regional problem and only affecting specific endpoints which were non-standard ad-supported bitrates.. so I suspect the ad-network was causing the issue... however I can't confirm that for sure. Now that everything is working I've switched any of our 128k channels over to 192 and that has prevented the pre-roll ad from playing.

Unfortunately, in the process, pre-rolls for all registered DNAS stations was activated by mistake.

We've now disabled it.

There is still a $ monetisation symbol on my admin page and hovering over it says

"Active DNAS+ Stream Monetisation Enabled".

No ads are played though, or at least no pre-roll ads; I cannot say yet if some are inserted randomly in the stream because I have only just implemented authhash. I cannot see where on RMO I can disable it but as you say, I shouldn't have to opt out.

Yes, for DNAS, if you don't insert trigger files then no ads will ever be triggered or inserted.
Therefore revenue generation itself is opt-in.

People were reporting hearing pre-rolls here due to a serverside test (for one particular hosting provider) that went wrong, since fixed.

You can request (via email, support form, or here) for monetization support to be completely disabled, if you want... and then you won't see the $ signs. I'd obviously need to know the account/station details....

I'm not sure if you granted my request. I still see the $ signs but now they are crossed out.
