DNAS v1 No Longer Supported by Yellow Pages

Although my log file still says
code:
[yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com added me successfully

for about a week now no stations using DNAS v1 are being listed in the yp directory of shoutcast.com.

This is probably an unofficial nudge for us to all move to DNAS v2 but kind of rude of shoutcast.com to not spell it out. OTOH removing the stations might be a crude way to work around the embarrassingly old bug of those v1 stations no longer being playable from the directory listing.

I remember a red lettered highlighted area somewhere around here for all to see, saying they were making the switch. Been like 6 months or something.

It only happened a week or two ago so it is strange that any such message already got removed.

The difference in SC1 and 2 is apples and oranges. SC2 has so many options available, Flash, HTML and good old playlist tune in options, artwork or at least a streaming logo of your station with your audio, a back up file and intro file that works (SC1 never really perfected this) and a more secure server.

And don't let all the hype fool you, everything you can do with SC1 you can do with SC2 and no more if you chose. I do not run a commercial station so I know little about running a monetized server, but there's alot of it out there right now working well...

There are just a couple more hoops to jump through to get there. Nothing major. Took me a while to turn over too. Worth the effort.

It is never that simple in computing.

The admin page in SC2 refreshes continually (showing the up-time etc) and that screws up a very elaborate script I run as a firefox plugin. I wish there was a "classic view" option (even though some new functions would then be missing).

Not true (anymore). As long as the v1 server is taking a relay from v2, its listeners are counted in YP totals.

Actually it doesn't matter which direction I relay in:
v1 --> v2
v2 --> v1
as long as there is a v2 somewhere in the chain all the listeners in all the sources and relays are tallied up for the yp listener count.
