Funk, 80s, Classic R&B, Rap, Soul this is what i have and always had on my encoders why shoutcast don't take the first genre of the list as primary genre?? |

Incidentally, when using the iPod app, the 'Holiday' genre appears in the list twice (an extra time after 'Rock').

This change on 7th June seems to have caused my station to get deleted from the 'International' genre.
After a day of fiddling/headscratching, I found that if I continued to specify my genres as "International Asian" I consistently only get listed in Asian . Therefore, my station had become invisible to people who can't see the sub-genres, for example, because they're navigating using the genre links to the right of the YP; not expanding the top level genre; or are using an iPhone/mobile. The only way I could get my station back into 'International' was to delete Asian from my genre list, which is a shame as it was a useful search term.Is there some il-thoughtout logic in the new genre processing ..or some other reason? Cheers. |

Developers greetings!
I think the major questions everyone has here is: 1. WHAT IS THE PROPER WAY OF ENTERING GENRES INTO THE ENCODER? (with spaces or without, with comas or without, could you give an example please...) 2. Are we allowed to input multiple genres into encoder? If yes, what would be considered as primary by YP? Thanks for your work! Best Regards, Alex. |

I had to move to a new server, and after reinstalling Shoutcast, my classical station shows up as "college"?
My opera station listing is still correct... |

Try the search box at the top of the directory site. That usually works for me.

I'd like to propose to reinstate the "Game" genre, most probably under the Themes tree, and also request a "Geek" genre =P (under the same category as well)

Not necessarily. For instance I've been running a gaming related radio for the past five years. Although there could be video game soundtracks airing occasionally, the vast majority of the music is "regular" music. What classifies it as a gaming radio is the content. News, interviews, talks about specific games and the gaming world, gamer's lifestyle and so on.
I do know also for a fact that there are quite a few radios out there that deal with video games in a similar fashion (i.e. not focusing on video game soundtracks, but on the aspect of gaming itself). I'd also propose a more hierarchical and categorical structure of the tags and give the option to the radios to fill those out in sc_serv/sc_trans. Something like: Category > Classification > Genre > Subgenre Here are some examples: Music > Electronica > UK Garage > Dubstep Music > Rock > Metal > Death Metal Music > International > Greek > Folk Thematic > Technology > Video Games > World of Warcraft Thematic > Lifestyle > Fashion Talk > News > Current Events > Philadelphia Additionally, give the option to stations to range the depth of their hierarchical tree from the second to the fourth branch, so a station that specializes into playing all sorts of rock music could just fill out Music > Rock Finally, have the option for members to suggest new 3rd and 4th level nodes through a form for their station, and add them (or reject them) after moderation. |

k, had to ask more out of curiosity than in implementing such a change as i was under the impression the genres had been simplified for a specific reason (before my time so i'm not sure on the details etc) though most likely to make it simpler in certain respects to categorise streams (obviously there will be some streams that never fit into a certain genre but i thought that was the same with the old pre-enforced setup anyway).
personally i'm not sure about having more levels to things though i was under the impression that the 'keywords / tags' aspect as part of the YP2.0 system was there to cater for finer tuning of search results which multi-level genres would otherwise do. -daz |

I may have missed the explanation to this question but will ask anyhow. I was recently informed that only 1 genre could be listed in our DNAS. I would like to know if it is now possible to list more that 1? We are currently listed as "Metal" but would like to add "Heavy Metal" to our genre listing. Thanks and keep up the good work!!

nope, you can still only have 1 genre and you would need to set the genre to heavy metal if that's a better option for your stream.
whether the number of genres allowed is changed again or not is something we're investigating and have yet to decide upon. |

"foobar" is not necessarily a music genre.

"fellatio" isn't either - what's your point?

Rita24: your quote and response don't make much sense. if you have a point to make please do so clearly (as your few posts so far look somewhat suspicious to me anyway).
----------------------------------------------- and i'll post it here so it'll be lost in the ether, any usage of the noted sub-genre's implies the parent genre when using the SC API methods e.g. having the genre as Swing implies Jazz as well and a station with such a genre will appear in all Jazz searches as well as the Swing searches. this means that any sub-genre counts as 2 genres (something that didn't quite work right until some API handling updates made in December 2014). though maybe we'll be having the potential inference of 6 genres per-listing soon... |

New here with a Radionomy based station TheBocX, listed under Jazz. How can I get it listed under "Cool Jazz" please?

Greetings,
My station TheBocX had a programming error on the Radionomy side earlier today, and it caused my station to be taken out of the Cool Jazz category. Would someone be able to place it back in that category please, thank you! Phil D |
