I know that I have to have a bitmap editor to paint my skin. But which one do I use?? Right now I am trying to paint over the main.bmp. My computer came with MS paint...It's not very helpful....

Any suggestions...

Thanks in advance

try this
http://www.gimp.org

Has a full feature set and very similar to Adobe's Absolutely Superior photoediting app. (PhotoShop)

hi krystall_mechelle, welcome to skin love
I made my first skin with MS Paint only, and I would not recommend it - to the already mentioned grafix tools I add Macromedia Fireworks, which I prefer

And you need a manual just to download and install the thing. Sheesh! Why don't they make you follow a few more links to download?!

i thought gimp was for linux and not windows... oh well i guess you could (possibly) compile the damn thing in windows if you had the right tools...
(based on my previous linux usage and compiling.. (never tried to compile a linux tool in windows))

Duk- Its a linux programs, and "linux-ians" (as i call the anarchist cultists) hate windows. Therefore, getting a program made for linux (and considered one of the champion programs of the open source movement) ported to windows will be made difficult just because linux people look down on windows users as "pedestrian"

I believe it's already ported, I looked at it about 6 months ago.

After about 15 minutes of searching, I did find a windows version ... but ... well, then I remembered I don't need another graphics program (guess jax just wore me down with gimp posts). If windows is pedestrian and linux is el autobus, I'll be hoofing it thank you very much.

Yeah, do you remmber the URL? When I get a new computer I'll install Linux. I've been looking at it for a while. But for now I'll stick to windows even if it has already crashed three times today.

Yes GIMP has been ported to windows... its been out for at least a year in like 20 versions (There are 20 versions/updates of all linux programs) The URL exists somewhere on that site- what i meant earlier ny "getting" it is that it was hard to [b]find[b] on that site...

Support for Xerxes words taken from gimp site ...

Quote:
[*]The Windows version is GIMP 1.2. The base GIMP code should be relatively bug-free. The Windows code without doubt has bugs, though.[*]The GIMP for Windows is not really targetted at end-users yet. The program(s) might crash unexpectedly or behave otherwise strangely. (But of course, so do many commercial programs on Windows.)[*]If you have NT 4, and a Microsoft Wheel Mouse, some people tell me GIMP hangs unless you remove the mouse icon from the taskbar. Go figure.
Subtle, yet not so subtle, windows bashing. See what ya mean. I'm all for a good Gates bashing now and then, yah. But I certainly hope Linux users don't look down their noses at me because I use an OS that is so widely developed for and readily available ... would be foolish for me to not do so. That said, I am obviously open to new experience cause I did can WMP for Winamp. Ah well, the battle rages on.

Good quote brother Duk, but I feel this sums it all up in one neat statement...

LOL
I have to say that gimp doesn't crash THAT often
...only if windows is in the wrong mood

ya know...the best about gimp is that it's free! In all meanings of the word

I didn't think it was *that* hard to find, took me under 30 seconds... just scroll down the main page a tiny bit, there are four questions "What is the GIMP," "What's this site about," "Where can I get the GIMP," and "What about GIMP for Windows?" It's in fairly large bold text... *shrug*

Of course you are assuming that I knew it was a linux program right off the bat and that I *needed* to search for a windows version. Um yeah, then finding the download would be a piece of cake now wouldn't it.

I have Gimp on my computer, but I never use it. Too much stuff in my taskbar.
