I have two Windows 2000 SP2 machines on my home network. Both hooked into the same D-Link router/hub. I can access the internet on both machines just fine. On my newest machine (just set up) Winamp 2.75 works fine with CDDB, so I know my router/hub is configured properly. On my main machine, I can't access the CDDB site with Winamp, MusicMatch or CDEx. I know it's a problem with my machine, but I don't know what to check.

I have made sure the network connection options are the same between the two within Winamp. I have also made sure the Windows network connection settings for TCP/IP are the same.

I know it used to work on the machine it's now not working on. I don't really want to reinstall the OS and start from scratch. Any ideas on what to check? I don't have any gen_*.dll files in my plugins directory. I tried one other cddb site in Winamp with the same results.

Thanks,

Scott

Make sure ports 8880 and 80 aren't blocked in the admin cp permissions.

Is that possible on Win2K Prof?

I have Win2K Professional. I can't find any options to turn on/off 8880 or 80 on my machine that won't work.

Solved It - removed ZoneAlarms

It was ZoneAlarms that was shutting off the 8880 port. It caused other problems allowing my machines to see each other on my home network so I removed it. I had previously kept it from running in the Startup group, but that didn't turn off all the functionality apparently.

One other interesting note is that my copy of Netscape Navigator 4.75 also stopped working after installing ZoneAlarms. Whenever I would start it up it would say it couldn't connect to a server and would stop working. Removing ZoneAlarms solved that problem too.

I think that's what I meant to say first time, it just came out all wrong

I'll rephrase it to:
If you're using any firewall software (such as ZoneAlarm)
Make sure ports 8880 and 80 aren't blocked

ZoneAlarm is one of the best firewalls out there, as long as it's configured correctly.

Anyway, glad you fixed it
