Backwards conversion? or old encoders?

*sigh*... just discovered today that the reason my portable cd player with "built in mp3 decoder" doesn't like anything above mpeg 1.0 and when I recently ripped all my stuff... i used RealJukebox for convience but now they're all mpeg 2.0

So... Can anyone point me to older dlls that'll rip in 1.0 and not 2.0 or 2.5?

RealJukeBox sucks donkey balls. MPEG1.0-Layer3 is standard anyway. God only knows why they use MPEG2.0 or higher...

Get CDEX and the latest version of the Lame encoder. They're the best, hands down.

Thanks! Now I can re-rip my cds into mpeg 1.0 and then listen to 'em in my car finally

But when I tried to convert some of the mpeg 2.0, layer 3 ones to wav and then back to mp3... they stayed in mpeg 2.0, layer 3 format instead of being converted to mpeg 1.0, layer 3 this time around.

Is there any hope of getting them converted? I'd ripped some of my friend's cds but not easy to get them back to re-rip.

CDex -> Options -> Settings -> Encoder tab
Encoder -> select: Lame DLL
Version -> select: MPEG1
