I'm new here, just want to know...

...is this a good skin?

It's not finished yet, but you can also see that

I don't have to much time so I want to know if the skin is good enough to spend my time on. If the skin sucks I'd better stop working on it because I have more things to do.

You should've started a poll.
It looks alright, not the best and maybe a little too generic. Kind of like its been done before. Add something genuine that people will think is different and also fix the the side menu letter things (I don't know what they're called).

Ok, I know blue and metallic are very generic, but I just started skinning and I want to start with something "easy".

about "the side menu letter things" I'm working on it. (only 20% of the skin is done.)

"Side Menu Letter Things" = "Clutterbar"

Holy wow, I'm liking this one. The thing that bugs me is the darkening behind the title, doesn't fit with the way the text.bmp and numbers.bmp, etc. don't have any kind of shadow or anything. I'd remove the blackness behind the title and just have white-on-blue. and consider extending the metal plate around the cbuttons farther up.

Hey, nice. I agree with flatmatt, but I don't agree with his solution. I'd steepen the gradient of the shading, or I'd change the backgrounds of the numbers and text. it takes a little time, but isn't hard. I don't like your name - it doesn't fit the rest of the skin. (I mean style and position, not actual name) Personal opinion.

Overall nice work. IF anything else puts me off, it's the sliders - they're kind of basic. Not a big deal though, they look alright. Welcome aboard! I look foward to seeing what else you've got up your sleeve.

...a blatant person.

Wow! that you can see I used shadow behind the title, are you using Double size and a 22" monitor or something? .

About raising the metal around the buttons: I did that when I started this skin, but the metal was to close to the Seeking Bar, I looked a bit weird because the rest of the skin is not that close to the metal.

I know the title sucks, does somebody have a better name/title for this skin?

If you creatively inculded those lovely greek alpha/omega symbols into other features of the skin (sliders... etc ) it would do a great service for you in that it would help make it less "generic"

Welcome to skin love Mafferik
I think it's a very good start for your first skin, and you should definitly stick to it. I like the shape of your metal frame, however the inset blue area still seems a little inconsistent (text is mixed flat and shaded, and mixed serif/sans serif). I guess you are still trying to find out which way to go either more 3D or flat. I would tend to the flat direction in this case

I use Paint Shop Pro 7 for this skin.

Thx for all the replies. I will make the "kbps" and the "khz" at the same font as the Song Titles. The title will be temperary removed and added at the end. (wenn I maybe know a cool nam) I will post the finished skin in some weeks here, and then change things you people don't like.
