File Association Question that I can't find answer to...
Hello,
I know this 'topic' has come up before and I have searched the archives...so to speak...but have not found 'my problem' listed, so I'm hoping someone here might know what I can do... Here it is. 1. I've re-installed "windows" in the last 48 hours and I've downloaded Winamp again. I've got a second hard drive on my computer that has all of my MP3 songs I've downloaded. 2. Winamp is my default player for MP3's and other audio formats. Here comes the 'kicker'. A few songs I download at the same time have two different extensions... A) .MP3 or B) .TEMP (and of course the 'icon' next to these two files are a bit different.) Now, if I 'click' on the file with the '.temp' extension, Winamp of course plays it w/OUT issues. So far, so good. HOWEVER, if I take more then one song with a ".temp" extension and try to get Winamp to play them, its says there is NO FILE Association and for me to add it. This is bugging me because there is an assocition for both 'temp' and '.tem' files that point to Winamp. Now, I can get around this by dropping these songs into Winamp...ONE AT A TIME...which is a pain...if you can imagine...and then save the 'playlist'...but there has got to be a way aroud this. If anyone might know why two files....downloaded using the same app (WinMX) would give me one MP3 file and one TEMP file, I'd like to know cuz' I cant find it on their site. I've tried the other options that have been posted in the past...to no avail...these range from the steps you follow under "Preferences" in Winamp and the ones under "Windows Media Player" to no avail. Thanks for any assistance, Badboy |

File Association
Hello,
thanks for the information, unfortunately, the same issue is still there. I've checked the preferences w/in Winamp for Mp3...so, I'm not sure why this is happening. Any other options? I'm game for just about anything right now... Thanks, |

Folder Options -> View tab
Uncheck "hide extensions for known filetypes" However, it's unlikely that .TEMP is a known filetype anyway! Another option is to add TEMP to in_mp3.dll's formats list. Winamp Prefs -> Input -> MPEG Audio Decoder -> config -> General tab Extensions list = MP1;MP2;MP3;TEMP I think it's something to do with when you listen to a song whilst WinMX is still downloading it . . . therefore it saves it as a TEMP file? Not sure exactly, 'cos I don't have WinMX myself. |
