download a cd ripper (MusicMatch)... pop a cd into the cdrom... open up musicmatch and record the songs you want in the recorder... then go to musicmatch's music directory (usually C:\program files\musicmatch\music) and add the songs you recorded onto your playlist

voila

Artist Track

Don't use MusicMatch.

Use CDex, trust me. It's a bit better, quite a bit easier to use, and a lot less bulky than MusicMatch.

MusicMatch? Did somebody (*cough* chiquita chad *cough*) say MusicMatch???

Use EAC with LAME, that'll give you the best results. CDex is okay, also .

ALso read this, an except from the TSGH forum for more information .

Peace.

how could one ripper be better than another in quality?
Does it rip in different frequencies or something.
I just downloaded muscimatch and use it for the cda to mp3 capability. I still use my winamp for everything else.

- It's not about frequencies or such, it's about quality. EAC performs better, making sure that the rip is 100%-ly accurate, without pops and clicks in the WAVE-file. That's called secure extraction, which takes advantage of your CD-ROM drive's features, such as accurate stream, C2 error correction, and so on. EAC performs best if you want accurate rips without artifacts inside. CDex performs fine, too, but EAC's secure ripping method may be better in certain cases.

MusicMatch does not have any secure mode at all , only a burst- and synchronized mode, which do not give feedback if errors occurred while ripping . That can result in pops, clicks and hissing sounds in the WAVE, especially when a pretty scratchy audio CD has been ripped .

The MP3 encoder shipped with MusicMatch pretty much sucks, too. It's a newer revision of a faster, VBR-enabled Fraunhofer encoder, which has some flaws (but still better than Xing ) as well. Check r3mix.net for in-depth details about that. Spread the word .

Peace.

a lesson to be learned . . .
never go with the first reply . . .
always wait for more replies first.

MMJB is a p.o.s
Very buggy bloatware with a crappy encoder. Trust us on this one!

I hope it didn't take over your hard drive too?
(Filetypes & AudioCD associations)

CC, that was very very bad advice.
I'd rather you recommended using Winamp ahead of MMJB.
(CDReader input plugin + MP3 Output plugin)

I use CDex, and recommend it also. CDex uses LAME encoder by default. You can make CDex use other encoders, too. My favorite is BladeEnc (separate download), although Im not sure why. Does anyone know what the differences are, which one's good and why, etc?

Blade is pretty much dead... it was never really fabulous anyhow. Lame is considered the best because it is being worked on every day, and extensive sound tests have been done that prove that Lame performs better than other MP3 encoders.

Blade is still under development, but it's kinda very slow, since the author got better things to do, obviously .

Blade is a pure CBR encoder, without any fancy features, neither quality-wise, nor feature-wise.

Talking about its features, Blade does not offer that great quality, as it is aimed for at least 192kbits and above, and it still ain't that great even at 320kbits. Blade's Joint Stereo modes suck major butt . On the r3mix.net forums, audiophiles say that it comes right behind Xing, quality-wise . I don't know personally if that applies, but Blade never sounded good to me at all. Blade also does not have a VBR mode .

Screw Blade . There are much better encoders out there, especially LAME, which basically became the best encoder.

Peace.
