Anyone have any good ideas?

Hey,

I've been sick as a dog for a few days.... Anyone know of a good way to get rid of a vicious chest-cold? Jesus, I can't even swallow my own spit cause my throat is so swollen...

ugh..

i find that gargling with salt water will often help. i don't generaly do tihs for a chest cold, but for post nasal drip. um, lets see, i suppose any thing that produces steam would be good. i don't sugest coffe or anything else thats either basic or acidic (bitter or sour). a sudden change from warm humid air to cold dry air use to get rid of my asthma realy well. actualy, any time i had a chest complication caused by anything other then a virus or bactria (and co) i would do this and it would worl almost 100% of the time. of cource if you have a fever or infection this is highly unrecomended.

If you are really that sick, you need to go to the doctor. If your mouth is swollen badly, it can be dangerous. The doctor will give you some type of cortizone to kill the swelling and probably some antibiotics to help fight infections while your body takes care of the virus.

In the mean time, eat/drink something with chicken broth. It soothes the throat a bit and helps with congestion.

oh, i suggest doing something to take your mind off your pains. this will make your life hell, and make you agitate your condition. i suggest sitting up so that the fluid in your lungs isn't stagnit with the exception of your coughs. but, i suppose if you are reading this post you are at your computer or laptop/notebook. either way you are sitting up and are occupied. stay away from humor since this can induce an uncontroled cough. i wish i thought the the chicken suop thing. its the universal cure-all! oh, thinking of that, roman nuddles would be good. while not brinking warm stuff, i suggest cold. room tempeture will do no good. cold will reduce swelling and the warm will relax your throat mussles. actualy, the more i think of it, hot choco would be ideal. it will caot your through in suger and at the same time relax it.

Dude... go raid your bathroom medicine cabinet and get the NyQuil. And if you don't have any NyQuil, well, then you're a Nazi.

Seriously tho, NyQuil actually helps me quite a bit when I'm sick.

If your chest is stuffy or achy, boil some water, pour it into a medium sized bowl, and put your head over the bowl (not too close or burns will ensue) and a towel over your head and the bowl to direct the steam at you (this worked for me when I used to have asthma but didnt know what was wrong). Breathe the steam slowly. It always helps me when I get a chest cold.

One other odd thing, chicken soup never really did much for me, but when I ate some bland flavor (Chicken, etc) Cup-O-Noodles, that seemed to improve it more then the regular soup. I know that sounds nuts but it works

[edit] Sarge is right, NyQuil is the universal equalizer. It might not make you feel better, but you'll be unconcious anyways , so you won't really care. Its great stuff. I take it even when I'm feeling fine just for the euphoria.

Just keep yourself well hydrated. Drink litre after litre of water. Don't mind the frequent loo trips.

Just let it go. It'll make you feel warm all over. Well, maybe just your lap.

In theory, a clogged esophagus is just like a big pipe with crud in it, so 2 tablespoons of Drain-O should do the trick

A shot of brandy or rum usually works..... seriously....... try a hot totti, it relaxes the muscles and the heat dislodges any phlegm or mucus stuck in your throat.

Yes, you'll wont feel pain anymore. You wont have to worry about anything except whether your going to the light or the fire (if you believe in that; possibly another body?)

The funny thing is, our plubming is fucked up right now so I can't use the toilet. Which means I have to go outside and pee and poo in the woods.. Which makes me not want to eat and drink as much fluids... Go figure... *sigh* this week sucks...

Steve?
Can I turn avatars on in here for a week long trial?
I just read the entire vBulletin manual and have the aptitude to not screw it up.
Please?
