The List - button in the Winamp playlist window is being used to load, save and create a new playlist .

Referring to your problem with Winamp not loading / playing songs:

Does Winamp print out an error message? If true, then I would like to refer to this, an excerpt from the TSGH forums. Browse that thread and check if you can find any info that might be useful.

We'll need more information in general on what does not work when you try to play those files, such as: Does that problem only appear when trying to play back MP3s? Does Winamp seem to play, but you can't hear any sound? Does the position slider move all fast and you can't hear anything? Does Winamp refuse to play at all, just printing out an error message?

Since you are new to Winamp (welcome ), I'd suggest that you read the Official FAQ as well as browse the TSGH forums for more information .

Peace.

Thanks for your fast reply. You guys are good!
However, since i need to give you more detail info, this is what happens. I guess something must happens when i save mp3 files after i download them. Some files come as zip files (ex: songs.zip)and i know i have to extract them when i open them. After i download and open a song i try to play on winamp but nothing apprears except the name of a song. The seek bar moves really fast even though i know most songs are somewhere around 3 or 4 minutes. I don't hear any sounds or whatsoever, which i'm not sure if winamp could read what i download as mp3 files.
But i don't know why it wouldn't read them. After i download, i make sure to change files as mp3 files. Am i doing something wrong?

Thank you very much

Alright, some ideas just came to my mind which I hope will be helpful .

Of course you have to unzip / unrar / unace (or whatever compression program has been used) the downloaded MP3s first if you want to play them using Winamp. Winamp can't handle zipped MP3s (yet).

Maybe you accidentially enabled the Winamp DiskWriter plugin, which causes Winamp to write the playing song as a WAVE-file (*.wav) onto your harddrive instead of playing back the song. Playback will be muted, and the seek bar moves pretty fast, too. A solution would be to disable the DiskWriter plugin and use the default WaveOut or DirectSound plugin. In order to do this, perform the following:

Open up Winamp, then press both the CTRL and P - key together to make the Winamp preferences window to appear. Then you go to Plug-ins -> Output -> highlight Nullsoft waveOut plug-in v2.3 (just single-click on the entry named like that). Now close all windows and let Winamp play a song to see if your problem disappeared .

If that does not help, update your DirectX installation to the current release, v8.0a. DirectX is a multimedia extention developed by Microsoft, which is basically essential for modern multimedia / audio / video players / games. DirectX should always be the latest version. To find out what version is installed onto your computer, search for a file called Dxdiag.exe in your Windows/System - directory.

Also upgrade your drivers. It's essential to have the latest drivers installed, especially for your video- and soundcard.

Peace.

Maybe I am reading your post wrong, but just changing the name doesn't make it an mp3 file. Are they mp3s that you are downloading?

Uh, where did anybody say something about renaming?!

Anna Kang knows that she has to extract / unpack / uncompress, or whatever is needed to get an usual, plain MP3 - file after downloading. Winamp does not support packed MP3s (yet), so, of couse, you'll always have to unpack the MP3 first, duh!

Also, if the full name of the song appears in the title display, then I would say the MP3 has been unpacked already, unless the archive the MP3 is in has the exact filename as the MP3 itself .

Read the posts more thoroughly before confusing people even more, CharKane. Thanks .

@ Anna Kang: Let us know if my advice helps, please .

Peace.

Has this been mentioned yet?

Windows Media Player -> Tools/View tab (depending on version) -> Options
Formats tab : uncheck all filetypes/extensions you don't want associated.
eg. MP3 Format sound (MP3, M3U), etc.

Winamp Prefs (Ctrl+P) -> Filetypes
Select : MP3, PLS, M3U, plus any other formats of your choice.

This will make Winamp the default player.

Budgie, Major Rude Dude says, "Read the posts more thoroughly before confusing people even more, CharKane."

Oh, please, get a grip, dude.

I admitted I might not understand them and asked for clarification - for that you chastise me? Off your high horse and come back to Earth with us mortals. Maybe you never need to ask for clarification but most of us occasionally do and don't need some too-big-for-his-britches-poster snide comments.

And also says, "Uh, where did anybody say something about renaming?!"

Anna Kang: "i make sure to change files as mp3 files"

If it is not the name they are changing, then what are they changing?

As I said, in my post, "Maybe I am reading it wrong..." but I can't think of anything else they would change about a file.

Okay, maybe they aren't renaming the file. Maybe they aren't changing the file at all. But if either is the case, then I am not the one "confusing" people.

Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaay . . . 20 days later . . . .

CharKane
Maybe it was because you posted straight after Budgie that he thought you were commenting about his post, whereas if you'd included a quote from Anna's post things might've become more clearer?
eg

Sure, I can understand why you'd think that maybe AK was just trying to rename the zip extension to mp3, which would definitely be the cause of the problem.
However, just above that AK says
Quote:
Some files come as zip files (ex: songs.zip) and i know i have to extract them
which suggests she surely already extracted the mp3 file from the zip with a zip utility . . . yes, no, maybe?

But, unless AK comes back to confirm any of this, I don't suppose we'll ever know

Anyway, calm down . . . please.
Budgie's not been here for a week or so due to personal matters, but I'm sure he'll apologize as soon as he comes back. So let's all be friends here please. There's enough trouble in the world already without us needlessly adding to the hostilities.

Thankyou

The Egg.
