Using mic on new shoutcast dsp
I am running windows 98SE, and broadcasting a stream. I have the newest dsp plugin. My soundcard is SB Live Platinum. I can broadcast the music fine, with no problem, but how do I use the mic. When I click on the input tab of the dsp and the input device is on winamp, there is no option for a mic, unless I switch the input device to soundcard input. Then the mic works, but the music stream doesn't. How can I have the music stream working, then push to talk, and have the music fade and the mic work. I can't figure it out. If you can help. Please email me at dsk149@psu.edu. Thanks.

That doesn't work
I have the new version of that dsp, so that one will not work. I believe it has something to do with my soundcard and the way sblive works. Please get back to me.

File isn't there
That file wasn't there, I even did a search for it and it wasn't found, so what could it be? Any other ideas. Dave

Try playing around with the Volume and Recording controls... I haven't had too much success with that either. but of course I haven't really worked very much on that part of the program.
Here's what I have discovered on my system. #1 - The recording source needs to be set to "What U Hear" (Set the gain to a comfortable level.) #2 - In the volumne control panel, leave your mic unmuted, but all the way down (try the +20db setting in advanced mode in either state (on or off) too!). also adjust the WAVE volume to a comfortable level. #3 - make sure that you have specified the volume settings in the winamp plugin, how loud the background music is during the time the mic is on, how loud the mic will be, and the normal music volume. #4 - Test, test, test. Play around with those volume controls until you find something that works... Then write them down, so you can set it back up again easily if the volume settings get changed. Once you get it working, use the Gain settings in "What U Hear" and the Settings in Winamp to control your volumes. NOTE!!! You may want to turn off Windows' sounds, as they will be broadcasted when Windows makes noise like 'ding!'. You should test the stream on another computer to make sure that the volume isn't too loud or soft. Goodluck! |
