wav back to mp3
Hello Winamp Staff!!
For a long time I have wanted to thnk you for such an outstanding product.... THANK YOU FOR WINAMP!!! Now, here'e my problem: I converted about 80 of my MP3s to WAV files so i could burn them (which didn't work cuz I havn't figured out my burner yet). And now I have these WAV files on my system and their taking all my drive space. I want to keep them on my system and in my Winamp but I need to convert them back to MP3. I tried Winamp output and I tried CDex, but CDex appears to convert only from a CD. Is there any other way?? Thanks so much! |

How comes you deleted the original MP3's ?
![]() Most conversion/decompression/ripping tools just save the files to the specified format and keep the original files intact, exactly as and where they were to begin with. What did you use to convert to WAV, and why did it delete the original MP3's ?

Deleted Mp3's
Well, i had originally converted them using the Winamp Output, but i didn't convert all of them, maybe about 80 out of 120 of them. It didn't delete the file, it just left it as a WAV file. But this was like a year ago, and I didnt' have problems with my hard drive until recently. I'm thinking it may have been when downloaded the new version of Winamp recently or maybe when I installed my web cam recently. I'm not sure but CDex is fixing it now, I tried CDex yesterday and I thought I could just convert from a cd and not from the files on my drive, but it appears that I can and Winamp has all my love!

Winamp Diskwriter Output plugin doesn't delete the original MP3's.
All it does is save a copy of them as WAV files in the specified output dir. Have you even checked to see if the original MP3's are still there? ![]() Use the windows search tool if you have to. Search for all files on your hard drive called: *.mp3 btw, yes, CDex is truly megga. You'll be amazed at some of the things it can do

Could have been...
Dear DJ,
I did check for them under files of type *.mp3 and they werent't there...could have been one of my ex jerks playing with puter and messing up my music...i think it's all better now. Although my disk space is reflecting the same as before, the .wavs have been successfully converted and and i'm a happy girl unless i start getting disk space messages (on a 20gig hd) again. Thanks for your efforts, Your Girl, Pigeon P.S. Hope I didn't send this twice...probs with my connection too! |

Yeah, looks like one of your ex jerks
must've deleted them.Anyway, once the WAV's have been successfully converted to MP3's, you can safely delete the humungously large WAV files to save HDD space.

Dear Egg,
Well, I went to delete the wav files but it seems that they are gone, but I'm still having hard drive probs, they must still be there somewhere, again I searched for *.wav but they weren't there. I'm clueless. |

No offense, but I guess you're not looking properly... or maybe its a case of a bad swap file.
Anyhow, get a guy you can trust to hunt and destroy those WAV files
