2.77 with CDs
I'm having lots of trouble playing cds in winamp.
the only way that i've been able to use winamp to play cds and utilize the cddb.com function is by selecting the drive from the play menu. This of course clears whatevers in the playlist already, making it difficult to arrange playlists with CD tracks and mp3s and impossible to create working playlists with CD tracks from different drives. this is a problem that i was trying to resolve in winamp 2.76 when 2.77 was released. I had hoped that the problem had been fixed. Is this a bug in winamp or something else? |

Not a bug
Can't you just add the CD tracks using the ADD button on the playlist? I'm guessing you can't because the CD has a data extra, so too bad... |

Add File, not Add Dir
Use Ctrl + left click to select more than one track, or Ctrl+A to select all btw, the CD still has to be in the drive for the track to play at a later date, so there's not much point in making playlists containing cda data. Best way is to rip the trax to MP3 instead. Unless you've got multiple cd drives/players hooked up to the system? However, I still don't understand what your problem actually is. Please explain in more detail. "Won't work" means nothing to us. eg. Are you saying the autoplay feature doesn't work? Are AudioCD's even associated with Winamp? (in: Prefs -> Filetypes) Is CDDB enabled? (Prefs -> Input -> CD Plugin -> config) Are you behind a firewall or using a proxy server? etc etc. Please provide relevant sys specs too. |

When I try to load the CD tracks of an audio only CD using either add dir or add file i get the same error message when i try to play the tracks:
ASPI error:0x4 (SRB completed with error) Sense key:0x2 (Not ready) Sense code:0x3A 0x0 (Medium not present). The tracks all show up in the playlist, however, listed as CD Track 1, CD Track 2, etc. with the length of each track labeled as 0:00. Also, if I right click on the tracks there is no option for CDDB unless I choose play from the menu and the drive letter. I run windows 98 on an HP 8750C with a CD-RW drive and another CD drive on my school's LAN. The cddb function does work in winamp, but only when I choose play and the drive letter. I just want to be able to put in a CD while i'm listening to my mp3s and not have a break in the songs, you know put the tracks in the temporary playlist right after the song I'm listening to. I would also like to play two CDs straight through without interuption or having to be right at my computer when the first one ends. Moreover it would be helpful if the tracks in the playlist had artist and track names rather than just track numbers. It would mae sense if the Play > Audio CD X: enqued the tracks rather than clear the open playlist and playing the cd. I'm not using a proxy server. I'm not concerned with Autoplay I find it annoying. CDDB is enabled. Is there any other information necessary for me to provide? |

That error message is from the CDReader plugin (a 3rd-party plugin).
You didn't mention that you've replaced the default plugin with this one! It's obviously not configured properly. What was wrong with the default input plugin? (in_cdda.dll) Anyway, if you insist on using in_cdreader.dll instead, you also need to disable the default cddb file (in_cdda.cdb) if you want to use the cddb feature with CDReader. Or maybe you've not even disabled the original plugin? (as explained in the cdreader documentation). If so, this would be the cause of the problem, having two active input plugins which both handle the same media type. Disable one or the other by adding the .OFF extension to the end of the filename. Make sure Winamp is fully closed before editing the contents of the Winamp\Plugins dir. I did not realize that this plugin had been installed. Is there any way to enque cd tracks from a cd with multimeda content without winamp clearing the existing playlist? |

Yeah, Ctrl+Alt+N
Open the CD in a different instance of Winamp, thus leaving your original playlist intact in the background. |

Winamp crashes
am I the only person who has the problem of Winamp crashing my entire computer when I try playing CDs through it? My computer just freezes and I have to reboot. I'm using Win 98 and as far as I know there have been no plugin changes.
