winamp temp file
I'm trying to made a cd with some of my d/loaded music, and some of the files show up as a wimamp temp file (even though the song is complete) HP cd-writer doesn't pick them up. How can I change them to a winamp media file like the majority of my other songs are?
thanks if you have any answers and take time to respond. Jo |

It would help if you could give us a little more information...
In Windows explorer, are the file extensions .mp3, or something different? What software are you using to write the CDs? How do you know they are complete? - Do they play in Winamp? |

Thanks for your replies. More info: the file extensions are mp3 I'm using the HP software "record Now" and yes they play fine in the winamp player, and they are complete.
to DJEgg: "Furthermore. what is this "Winamp Temp File" you speak of? As far as I know, there is no such thing." When I click on folders, then files, all my songs come up under music, then if I right click "show details" they all show up as "winamp media files" except for the two new ones I downloaded that show up as "temp file". I don't know how else to explain it. |

This would suggest that the two new files have the .tmp or .temp extension and not .mp3
Goto the containing dir in Explorer and change the extensions to .mp3 If you can't see the extensions, goto Windows Folder Options -> View tab Make sure "hide extensions for known filetypes" is NOT checkmarked. btw, I had a feeling you meant "Temp File" and not "Winamp Temp File"

Actually, they say: mp3.temp when I highlight the song in the winamp player and press alt3 or File info. I'll see if what you suggested works. Thanks!

Are winamp mp3 temp files those that appear when you update the id3v2 info - it writes the data to a new .mp3.tmp file and then deletes the old one before replacing renaming the other.
(or perhaps those created by mp3ext or some other tag editor). Just a thought... |
