Skin information?
Hi all
I'm doing a little study about skins (generic, not just Winamp specific). Could anyone help me out, please? I would very much appreciate any pointers to the origins of the skin culture. I'm looking for things like where and when was skinning "born"? What was the first program that got skinned? Was it an option of the program itself or just a result of clever hacking? All information is received with gratitude. Thank you for your time and effort in advance!

the first skinned mp3 player was yamp (Yet Another Music Player) from germany
the first skinned winamps were indeed hacked, the bmp files inside of winamp.exe were replaced with borland recource workshop or renovator, www.fli7e.de has some skins with bitmaps from the first hacks i don't know if other apps were skinable before yamp check www.customize.org and www.deviantart.com for skins for a variety of programs |

Way back in the day, people started hacking games and replacing textures. This was happening way back in the Doom era, although I'm not sure if that was pre-Yamp.

Thank you, Lion King and Curi0us_George, for the kind information!
This is a pretty vague subject, it's very difficult to declare any hard facts. I got some help here already but I welcome any new pieces of information, no matter how vague.
