how do I get a list of ALL my mp3s?
I heard somewhere that there is a way to generate a playlist of all your mp3s, how is this done? when I try to just select all the files in a directory, it won't open all of them if there are a lot. thanks.

Just add the songs you want
Playlist > Add > "Add directory (Shortcut: Shift+L) Will add all files in that directory that winamp supports |

Going to the bottom of the playlist window and clicking ADD->DIR should add all winamp supported files within that folder. Make sure that "Recurse Subdirectories" is checked.
If you want a printed list, hit CTRL-ALT-G to generate a html list in your default browser, which you can then print. Like my photography? Buy some here.... |

You could also generate a text file from the command prompt as follows:
c:\>dir>mp3list.txt c:\*.mp3 /s (type the bold bit). The /s switch is to include all subdirectories. Of course you could limit it to a specific path or change the drive quite easily. Type dir /? for other options on file inclusions/exclusions etc. I know doing it the other way is probably better and easier, but still...

With win9x it doesn't really matter whether the >mp3list.m3u is before or after the arguments...
You're right that I forgot the /b though - thanks. I doubt winamp would be particularly happy with all the directory info...

try again guys...
ok the whole reason i poured thru the forums tonigh was to get this question answered. However, I have already done what was mentioned here. my results were as follows: when selecting all those songs from the playlist window, winamp would open about 499 or so of them and automatically start playing the first while they all loaded into the window. then it would suddenly erase the windows contents and begin loading all the songs after the last one previously entered (as well as cutting off the song playing to start the first one now loaded into the window now) and it would load them all like this until it loaded all the songs originally selected. During this whole event there is no way to interact with winamp at all, it accepts no input at all other than a CTRL-ALT-DEL. I cant find any information anywhere mentioning winamp having limitations on how many songs can be loaded at once into the list. anyone have any more ideads on this?? FYI: I am tryiung to load a list with about 3000 songs.

I'm not sure I understand properly what you mean...
but have you tried going to the Winamp Preferences window. Then choose options and select Read titles on Play. If you have it on Read titles on Load winamp will seem to hang while loading track information if you try it with 3000 odd files... Hope this helps

heh... it totally wigs out when i select that mode... my god... when selecting all the files, it once again loaded about 499, but at that point is popped up a message window saying "incorrect function" and again started a new list from song 500 and on. only THIS time, it loaded (i counted) 12 instances of winamp at once, along with 12 messages saying the sound device in use message which im not going to pretend i can quote here. So i had 12 different songs playing at once... it was pretty funny, but i had to reboot to close em all. i guess theres no way to open that many files in one list. what a bummer

I've just tried loading 946 mp3s into winamp, and it works fine for me.
Can you tell me exactly what you are doing to load the files. I did a Find -> Files or Folders -> *.mp3 Then I selected them all and right clicked 'Play in Winamp' And they all loaded up. My Winamp is set to Read Titles on Display. |
