Sounds like it MIGHT be a bad driver. Update your sound card drivers and directX. KIll any third party plug-ins in the winamp/plugins dir while you are at it

Any chances that both your soundcard and videocard are PCI and / or are sharing the same interrupt (IRQ)? Check your Windows Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager for any existing resource conflicts. If you see a yellow exclamation mark in front of any device, then there's a conflict between at least two other devices. Try assigning different resources to any conflicting devices. If you can't do that within Windows itself, you'll have to reserve resources in your computer's BIOS setup.
If your videocard is sharing the same IRQ / interrupt with your soundcard, then assign different IRQs to the conflicting devices. Generally, sharing resources does not hurt with modern hardware, yet especially the videocard needs its own, dedicated IRQ to work flawlessly. Sharing IRQs is a very bad idea if your video- and soundcard both use the PCI bus. Additionally, bee sure you update your drivers for both your sound- and videocard. Check your hardware's manufacturer homepage for updates. If nothing helps, post here and please provide full system specs, such as detailed info about your videocard, soundcard, amount of RAM installed, CPU brand & type, mainboard brand & type, Windows version, DirectX version, and so on. The more, the better .Peace. |

Well, if we're gonna start reviving old threads
then the only other things I've noticed that haven't been mentioned are:1) Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Options -> Advanced tab: Uncheck "Use smooth scrolling" 2) Windows Folder Options -> View tab: Visual settings: Uncheck: show windows contents while dragging Uncheck: smooth edges of screen fonts (Sometimes, these options are also available c/o Display Control Panel) 3) Mouse Control Panel -> Motion tab: Uncheck: Use pointer trails Please note, this is just an addendum. More than likely it's one of the reasons aleady mentioned above. ie. Soundcard/videocard drivers; IRQ conflict; too many programs running etc. Naturally, we'll need your full sys specs to help you any further, that's if you ever come back again (it's been almost 5 months now). You might also want to try the official wa2update update patch: Winamp 2 Update (Updates both out_wave & out_ds plugins to peter's (PP) new versions, also updates in_midi.dll & in_wave.dll to new pre v2.80 versions) Further details: (READ THIS FIRST) http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=68811 |
