I am getting a system in my Jetta and I need some help on what are some good sites that offer help on what to look for when getting a good system or sites that offer good cheap prices.

I am thinking about getting 2 12" subs (good ones), and 1 good quality amp from alpine. I don't want tweeters since they don't seem to be worth the cost and I already own a CD Changer and Deck.

I am looking forward to peoples input.

the best car audio site. EVAR. and a nice layout too. and you can plug in your car and see what fits.

as for tweeters, you can probably do without. what i would do is put a nice set of 3 ways in front that would handle the treble, cuz you do need it to balance out the bass or it'll sound like you have a few sweaters covering your ears.

crutchfield gives the best deals by far. I got my two stereos for my car from there for hella cheap. The first one I got was a Blaupunkt and after that got stolen I got a newer model for $100 cheaper. I recommend going there for your stereo needs. The selection of speakers and subs they got there are good and they ship it very quickly too.

Just a bit of advice - make sure you get a good security system for the car too - particularly if it's an old car. My brother had his sound system nicked from his XR-2 while it was parked outside his house one night.

Luckily the thief was too stupid to look in the glove compartment where he'd put the front from the head unit, and left his wallet.

A good (cheap but effective) type of alarm to get would be one which measures a voltage drop in the circuit with the interior lights. This means if anyone opens a door without disarming the alarm, it will go off - and it's a bit difficult to nick a speaker system through a window

Most of todays cars have these types of security systems. Mainly cars after 97 do. My Jetta is a 99 and its German lol. So it has the alarm system that goes off if opened when it is not disabled, it also has auto lock which means if I forget to lock it, it will for me, and last the trunk only opens from inside by button or by remote. I think the security works

Someone stole one of my friend's Land Rovers (well, it was parked in a field in the middle of nowhere), so what he's done this time is put a switch connected to the fuel pump. This means that anyone who tries to steal it will get as far the exit to the supermarket car park before the engline runs out of fuel, causing an obstruction

that should get u started... and always check eBay before u buy your system components... i fount the sweetest pair of infinity subs for $39.99. they usually run u about 200.00... so good luck and dont buy anythin from legacy

One thing I noticed was that crutchfield.com is too expensive to buy from but a good place to just look. I am gonna probably buy offline at a place like Cartoys.com (Washington only).

If you've got endless budget, buy a palmtop with Windows CE, and a massive external harddrive. Put the harddrive somewhere out of the way, and hook up the palmtop to your in-car stereo, and install Winamp on it. Then you can have MP3's anywhere.

That's actually quite a good idea, I would try it if I had a car, or a palmtop, or money to buy either one.

Your behind the times my friend. You can have portable mp3 players plugged in as well as my personal favorite the Mp3 Reciever decks. Also don't use palm tops. You can plug in Lap Tops and even computers built for cars to run Winamp. If you use Winamp in your car, just make sure you pay attention to the road not the program. I know Probe and Boxor will put you into a daze but we don't want Winamp causing accidents.
