Microsoft recently screwed over winamp..?
Heya,
I'm running Windows ME on my brand new computer (only about 3 months old) and winamp would work perfectly fine. I could get all the visualizations I wanted and they'd all work great and look cool. Unfortunately a day or two ago Microsoft put out some type of update, you know the kind where that little blinking icon comes up on your sytem tray, and if you don't deal with it, a little dialogue pops up to bug the crap out of you saying something along the lines of 'Update now or your computer will explode damnit!!!', or atleast you get my drift. Anyways, this update notice pops up, and it won't leave me alone until I update, so I did, but after I restarted the computer, none of my visualization features work anymore. I can't get the osciliscope in the little winamp audio window or anything like that. I can get them to show up, but they don't seem to be recieving any input from the soundcard or something, because they come up however they act like it's between songs when there's no music playing. I have already gone through all the preferences and even made sure that CD/Linein input DLL had 'sample input from soundcard' going. I have tried reinstalling winamp, reinstalling plugins, updating my sound card, but nothing works. Help here would be greatly appreciated. I want my blinking lights! Thanks in advance. |

The problem is that winamp and the visualization plugins were working fine with Windows ME before the patch, and I don't want to have to spend 300 bucks just because Microsoft screwed up once again.

Dunno, Microsoft has screwed up on numerous occasions. I applaud the guy who pied Gates in the face.

Are you saying that vis plugins only don't work with AudioCD's?
Or is it with all media types? (mp3, wav, mid, etc) If just CD's then you need the CDReader plugin. Be sure to read the accompanying text file for installation details. The default in_cdda.dll doesn't support vis plugins. |

And of course if your aoundcard is an SBLive!/Audigy, you might want to search and destroy GEN_NOMAD.DLL

I have windows me and it has all of the updates and i am not having any problems with the visualisations.I have no idea why that happened. what u could do is do a system restore. every time u install something it makes a check point restore your computer to the time before u installed the update. when you do this none of the files that you have created after the update will be deleted, but any program that you have installed since that day will be uninstalled.
