Help! am i screwed??

afer reading thread http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=66364
I am worried! My problem is - is that I have a 3 cd set of a live concert - what I started out with was the MP3's - converted them to wav with winamp version 2.65- then burned them with HP CD Writer. What I want to do now is add tags (titles, etc.) to the whole 3 cd set. I have a cd rom and a separate burner - if that helps at all.

How do I add titles, artist, track lists - is it too late? will this take forever to do?? Help! Please note that this is a live concert - meaning there are no breaks in between songs.
Thanks in advance

Once a CD-R is burned and finalized, you cannot add anything to it.

These are audio-CD's, correct? The only way to "tag" audio CD tracks is to add CDtext when you burn the CD. And even then, only certain CD-ROM's and a select few Sony CD players will be able to read the track info. However, at least they will play properly.
And in CDtext, basically all you can have written is the Artist, Album and Songtitles.

So, if you really think it's worth it, you can rip the CD's to WAV files using a program such as CDex, then burn those WAV files onto a new audio-CD, this time using a program such as Nero - Burning ROM and adding the CDtext.

Or just put the audio cd in the drive, open it up in Winamp, press Alt+3
and type in the info yourself

No offense, but you obviously don't know much about burning CDs. Once they are burned, they are done. That's it. You can't change the files at all (Unless you use CD-RW and you can only change those using the original program). The only way is to take the ones on your computer and add the file info and THEN burn the CD (assuming you are wanting a file CD and just transferring the Mp3s). Otherwise if you want an Audio CD then Neo has got a perfect way for you (especially using CDex… awesome program).

New question

I'm still a bit confused, I guess my question in addition is - Is there a program that can add a break in between songs (since I have a live recording that is a continuous play) so I can tag them correctly. I obviously am a newbie at this and hope that the suggested programs have bb's like winamp.....I kinda have to do this before the weekend =P

please excuse my amateur question - I am a student determined to figure this out....
again - already have the wav files on computer and on a audio cd....need to add breaks to distinguish individual song titles....
thanks for the above answers thus far!!

Hi Ride
I'm getting a bit confused now over what you've got and what you want to end up with. And the link in your first post doesn't work for me.
If I've managed to follow this you have three long continuous recordings that have been recorded onto CD.
What you now want to do is take each of the continuous tracks and break it down into smaller sections, insert gaps between them, and possibly add some sort of name to them. So that you can jump from place to place on the CD with the remote.

If you still have the original Mp3 then download a program called 'mp3DirectCut'.
(Read the help file navigation notes first or you'll never find your way around)
This will allow you to cut the track into as many sections as you want and save them individually to disk. When you burn them to CD set up your compilation in the usuall way and set the pause between tracks to whatever you want. (2 secs. is standard for compatability with domestic players).

If you only have the wav files then you can do the same sort of thing with almost any wave editor. Most burning software will have one included (e.g. Nero).

Strictly speaking only Mp3s can have tags, they are actually incorporated into the file. You can't do this with the wav files that you burn to CD, however, but you can add a kind of index or table of contents to the disk that some CD players can access and display. This is known as 'CD Text' (Neo is a bit pessimistic here, more equipment is CD Text capable than he realizes now).
You can burn this info if your software is capable, but it will only be read if your player allows, otherwise it is ignored.

So Download mp3DirectCut from www.webattack.com
and Nero from www.ahead.de/en/download.htm
and get busy.

Post back if you need more help.

So, which hole did you crawl out from then? j/k
Ever heard of CDDB?
Did I say anything about editing/modifying the files on the CD? No, I think not.
I said to type in the artist/title info into Winamp's cd database (using Alt+3) so the data gets stored in the local cddb file (in_cdda.cdb with the default plugin, or cdplayer.ini with the CDReader plugin). Then whenever you next insert the CD, the info will be displayed automatically. Obviously the CD itself is not modified, 'cos like you so politely pointed out, it can't be.

We're dealing with burned AudioCD's here, not MP3 data CD's.
If it was a data CD of MP3's, then obviously you can't edit the id3 tags.
But it isn't . . . so who's the fool now? LOL

Software players read the AudioCD via the CD's exclusive digital key #

Obviously, if it was a commercial AudioCD, you could just download the cddb info from the net. But seeing it's a personally burned AudioCD, you have to type in the info manually.

However, Ride has a slight problem here, because each of the CD's only contain 1 long track, so basically he IS pretty much screwed. He should've used track indexes (ToC) when burning the CD to mark out where the tracks change (much better than creating gaps). Too late for all that now, unless he starts again from scratch.
So even the cddb function isn't really gonna help here, but at least it'll help to display artist + album/track (or whatever) details for track 1 (ie. the whole CD)

btw, I've been using CDex since the very first release. Well Whooooppeee!

So, please don't ever question me again, I've got more knowledge about pc's in my little finger than most people have in their whole body.

Yeah, sure, I make a few mistakes from time to time, I'm only human & nobody's perfect. But on the few occasions I have made mistakes here, I've always come back to admit it. You learn by your mistakes. But I haven't made one here, so your comments were unwarranted.

I don't mean to sound big-headed or patronizing, no-one's more humble than l'il ol' me, but I've just about had it with the amount of insolent divvy fruitbat trolls on these forums! As if I need any of this shit. Do me a fuckin' favor . . . pleeeeeeeaze!

I'm outta here.

Yup, the Egg is about to crack

ps. sorry to butt in on ya ujay & ride. Just ignore me, cos obviously I just talk shit and know nothing at all.

Thinkin' about this . . .

Oh Super sawg

If you get to see this thread, could you please remove my name from the moderator list for Tech_N00bs. I've had enough and I don't think I'm ever gonna visit the n00bs forum again. Their loss, not mine.

Cheers

Egg.

Oh yes, please do! Are you sure it's not too much trouble?
Are you even sure you know how to do it properly yourself ethan, because (like a constipated mathmetician) I've been trying to work it out for years now. I've read all those mindboggling tutorials in Tech Supports Greatest Hits, but it's all "double dutch" to me . . . and I wrote some of them myself . . . lord knows how
. . . but at least I took the trouble to look in the first place, hehe

Nice one ethan

Ooh, I lurrrv a good larrrff.

No problem my friend, it's alright, ya just caught me "on one" (if ya know what I mean?)

btw, I was just complementing/appending Neo's post.
I could've mentioned CDex, Nero & CD Text too, but there's no point in repeating what someone else has already said.

CDText is ok for newer external hi-fi/car cd players that support it.

Naturally, CD Text would also be the ideal solution for playing the cd on different pc's, as long as a player is installed to support it (is there even a plugin for Winamp?)

From: The Official Winamp 2x Wish List

#2 Support for CDText reading by Nullsoft CD/LineIn plug-in
Add the ability for Nullsoft CD/LineIn plug-in to read track data on CDText enabled CDs. More information about CD text can be found at Plextor's Web page (The official CDText is down, anyone know a better reference?)
Known Workaround: None
______________________________________________________________

Another solution, once the CD has been burned properly with the correct track index, is to actually submit the cd info to the cddb.com and/or freedb.com database (if they will allow it? should do!) then this info will be subsequently accessible from any internet-capable pc with a player which supports cddb (eg. winamp)
Though, to be perfectly honest, this is something I'm not 100% sure of (whether cddb allows submittal of homemade burned cd's)

Anyway . . . whatever . . .

Oh, and ethan, I'll be lookin' out for that e-mail.
Keep it real simple. No words with more than 5 letters an' all that
